Why is custom religion so expensive??
I'm sure I made this yesterday and it was about 5000, so I spent YEARS saving up 5000 piety.
Finally did it, and now i'm getting this:

The learning lifestyle has a perk which reduces the cost by 50%

You need the 'prophet' perk from the Theology focus.

That reduces the cost by 50% and you'd easily be able to afford it.

Previously your fervor was low. Now you're back at 100% and pay the full cost.

So the lower your current faith's fervor, the cheaper it gets to create a new faith.

BTW - Faith, not religion. The religions are the groups like christianity, islam or buddhism. Faiths are the individual denominations. You cannot create a new religion, even if you name it after your favorite manga it is still a christian faith.

It's not even that much. I farmed up 37k piety to convert to a dead religion, but then a random guy who practised that religion showed up, so I had to pay only 250 piety lol

For those curious it was the Milete religion

Aggressively pushing Piety generation tends to also boost religion fervor, so unless your religion's fervor is already full, you need to counter-balance the fervor growth or just assume that you'll have to pay the full price without the fervor discount.

Also if you're playing a religion with heresies, every time a heresy spawns now, the fervor gets a massive boost for awhile in order to slow down heresy spread, so you don't have pretty much all of them popping off at once.

So if I lower their fervor, I can create it cheaper? So I just have to beat up the catholics a bit?

Actually, causing the Catholics to lose will raise their fervor.
Winning and sinning lower fervor.

Whoops, I spent the last 4 hours giving them a bad time.
