Legitimacy is terrible for custom rulers

Started a custom ruler and started with 1 legitimacy then had the audacity to marry a commoner and instantly fell back into 0 legitimacy and no matter what I did I could not get out of illegitimacy.
Could not marry my courtiers to anyone, took a hit to relations with everyone, got attacked by another lord and just dog piled on.
This whole system is just there to ♥♥♥♥ you from the start and ruins custom rulers and it is so damned hard to try and build back legitimacy.
Great game up until this terrible dlc.

The only thing I found that build legitimacy the fastest is to do the legends. But that can be a huge investment early game, so I get where you're coming from.

I just joined in on hunts to bring Legitimacy back up since I had similar problems. Not sure about other activities but I got by alright.

I made a custom ruler married a commoner than conquered my neighbors to raise my legitimacy....its really just a temporary loss as long as your starting customer is heavy in martial you really shouldn't have an issue. Though my first of 5 daughters is currently my heir and she is ugly lol hopefully I can have a son so the kingdom doesn't split too much.
