Why do I keep losing legitimacy
Hi,

I play an Irish people and I have now conquered all of Ireland, Wales and parts of England for my empire.

I conquer counties or duchies bit by bit through the reasons for war. But I don't understand why, even though I'm constantly conquering new land and having more and more vassals, my legitimacy rank is only at level 2 with points 567.
I've lost points several times now but I don't know why.

I myself maintain the domain threshold of 5/5 counties and only hold two duchies. In addition, of course, the Kingdom of Ireland and Wales. Can you give me tips on how to get to the level 4 expected of my vassals?.
Thank you

do activities like hunts and do tournaments and win them so u can more legitimacy.

Then the legends those give them too.

and lastly win wars they give legitimacy too,

Think about it logically. Legitimacy is a measure to see how "True" or close to perfection your ruler is. If you start as an Irish and create the Kingdom of Ireland title. Chances are, people and vassals will be much eager to accept you.

Like imagine pleb talking between eachother "This man, of Irish blood, rose from nothing, conquered whole Island and united Irish clans once and for all, He is the one and only true ruler"

Now if you start going outside of that Irish culture zone. You will encouner Welsh, Anglo-Saxon, Norse etc. groups with leaders representing them. They won't accept an Irish ruler like that. So even if you beat them, their expectations are increasing. Hence it looks like you are losing it, when in fact it just becomes bigger and bigger demand.

Legitimacy is a system to support/maintain large amounts of land, when you decide to stop spreading and develop your country. Just so your next ruler can inherit some of this legitimacy/respect and make succession easier, without instant collapse of the empire.

Or atleast thats how I see it. You can't become legitimate ruler of just conquered land... If that land keeps increasing, you will need to prove to your new vassals/peasants that you infact are the one who will lead them to salvation and never ending glory.

really not all that complicated . if u lose a battle you lose legitimacy you get none from winning them . visit holy sites /hunts/tourneys/weddings/holding court/ winning wars all give legitimacy . using denounce or disinherit lose legitimacy being found trying to kill your son also drop legitimacy . just using events on cd and win your wars and battles youll be fine
I have not paid any attention to legitimacy at all. Whenever a faction pops up my 40k doom stack wipes the vassal’s army off the map.

There’s no point trying to gain legitmancy because stupid random events like plagues make you lose 100 legitmancy while winning a huge battle gets you like 20

The game tells you every time you lose legitimacy, as far as I can tell. If you don't know why you're losing it, might I be the *that* guy and suggest reading tooltips more?

Sure, i am reading the tooltipps and the Help-Sites, but I wouldn't ask if these explanations were enough to fully understand the mechanics here. Thanks to everyone else for the detailed help.

I noticed that when plague hit I get some events pop up now and then, and often I get the choice of spending some gold on some kind of help for the plague-devastaded community OR lose legitimacy if I don't want to spend gold. So far that has been the only times I saw a way to lose legitimacy, and I always choose to help so I don't lose any as it is so important. And also getting legitimacy xp is a slow process, so losing some is pretty significant. I guess losing a war would also cause legitimacy loss?

Winning wars and going on hunts seems to be a good way to get legitimacy, while also getting other nice and very useful rewards and bonuses.

Your not inspiring your subjects enough through the diplomacy options.

lol what, you said the exact same thing on my thread about "Too many random deaths". Did you get your responses mixed up? Because I couldn't make sense of it when you said it in my thread.

Have you been revoking titles to clean up vassal borders?

Also struggling with proper legitimacy amount. Found relatively easy way to earn it - when you try to imprison somebody for a crime, if they refuse - this cause a conflict with them. If you win it it gives you 50 legitimacy. And usually your vassals don't have an army so big that winning is a problem.

You could have married a low born and lost lots of legitimacy that way. I marry low born women when I don't have any legitimacy to begin with or almost none.

For me, it's the constant disease spam. Alban Flu? -60 legitimacy. London Flu a couple months later? -60 legitimacy. Dublin Flu a few months later? -60 legitimacy.

Every little cough in my capital? -60 legitimacy.

As if the plague has anything to do with your legitimacy as a ruler. That event hit for it is stupid.
