That said, what the user above described is the go to method. Make sure you have a court physician with good or excellent aptitude. Just the physician being there is enough to provide treatment without any additional input from you.
In the case of cancer, however, you will get periodic prompts to decide what treatment you want. I usually just leave it to the afflicted person to decide what sort of treatment they want IF they are an adult. In the case of kids, I go for the mild treatment ("do no more than necessary"). In my experience, risky treatments leave the patient mutilated.
Funnily enough, mystical treatment seems to have cured the two characters of mine who developed it. However, one of them became a lunatic some years later which may or may not be connected to the treatment.
