Did you try setting the diplomatic range shorter? I find that makes the games a bit more interesting anyway.
Only way to survive multiple murder attempts of them is to get lucky and get a good spymaster (invite knights and finger crossed you get knight with high intrigue and high opinion of you).
All your courtiers hate you and join murder plot because different faith and culture.
Put your high intrigue & opinion of you spymaster disrupt schemes and hope that murder plot is found before triggering.
You have about 2 years of time to disrupt plot from start date before trigger.
Never put a spymaster with negative opinion of you in the job, they just join plot and kill you.
