𝕿𝖔 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖁𝖊𝖍𝖊𝖒𝖊𝖓𝖙 𝕷𝖆𝖓𝖈𝖊𝖁𝖆𝖓𝖈𝖊𝕴,
May your stack ever be grand.
I've actually found many uses for dividing my forces, particularly when playing tall. Here are some ways I've used divided forces:
- One small stack to lure a large force unwilling to commit to a pitched battle onto unfavorable terrain, before I reveal my main army and reinforce with it.
- One small stack as a sacrifice to delay the enemy's siege progress while I complete a war-winning siege.
- One stack containing siege engines and levies to besiege the enemy while the main army whittles down the enemy forces afield.
- Divide into three stacks to spread across a large border, forcing the enemy to divide or allow me to claim territory while my ally arrives from afar.
- One stack with lots of Screen in Britain to run the enemy around, another to cross the sea and besiege the blasted vikings while they're away.
Even with the aggression there's still people who complain about how useless it is as an ally, so it's probably fine? I guess?
The ai uses this strategy
I think it could be very simple without remaking entire gameplay: the AI just decides to leave some force behind if they join wars hundreds of miles away from their own territory. Or the AI is much less inclined to join you in wars if they are too far away.
Yeah I don't really like the randomness unless it would be realistic for those times and I don't think that's the case. Still I like the game!
And my allies were useful to win the war. Would be nice to be able to advise them some directions to go to though.
It would be more realistic that they would never march that far to start with. Easier route is to have limit on range. Because in 1066 an army is not going to be able to come from Croatia or Byzantium to support England. Just not realistic on any level. So put a range on how far an Ally would be willing or able to march.
But, as player you can pick your alliance so they are not so far, also. Or to not invite them.
In my case they would be far too late back because they were 9 months of march away from home.
Of course but my problem was southern Italy suddenly getting support from France after my war started (and without obvious signs they would become allies). So when I need to pick allies close to home the AI should also be programmed to do so.
