Election for kingdom title heir
Hello-
I have an election coming up, for heir to the kingdom title. I can nominate someone.

However, I can't nominate myself, and can't even nominate one of my realm heirs, nor anyone in my dynasty.

I have 26 candidates to choose from. I was wondering if I could get some tips on how to choose my nominee.

Which type of election is it? Each type has its own rules on who can be nominated

It's usually not hard to remove the election law altogether in Realm > Succession > (select the other title) and there should be a remove law button at the bottom.

Thanks for the replies. As for the type of election, it is for the title heir to a kingdom. The election law is Tanistry Elective.

"The ruler and all vassals above the rank of baron and one or two ranks below the title can nominate a title heir - the tanist - from among the members of the ruler's dynasty."

So I can participate in the nomination process (because of my rank in the kingdom) but I cannot be the nominee (because I'm not in the ruler's dynasty).

As for removing the election law, correct me if I am wrong, I don't believe I can, because the law pertains to a kingdom higher than my position. I have a duchy which is just part of the kingdom.

I did try realm > succession, and I don't see an option to go into the kingdom title and change its laws.

In the OP I'm just wondering how you decide who to nominate for heir, or maybe it doesn't matter that much.

You can only remove the law if it's already your title, so since it's your liege's title you can't do that yet.

To select your candidate, click on the circle image that has what looks like a hand holding an envelope. Then just scroll through the candidates and select your nominee. Since it's not your title and you can't vote for yourself or your dynasty, you're basically just voting for your next liege when your current one dies.

Yes, that makes sense that I can't remove the law since it is not my title.

However, I don't have a liege. But my realm (duchy) is only a small part of a kingdom, so my rank is beneath that of the king. Kind of an odd power structure?

I understand the mechanics nominating someone. I'm just trying to decide who to nominate. I'll basically be voting for the next king.

If you don't have a liege, is it a neighboring king?

Tanistry Elective works with something called - i believe it was - Title Allegiance?

Which in-game means that everyone within a de jure kingdom with Tanistry automatically gets to vote, even if he isn't a vassal.
For example if you are King of Ireland and hold a single county in Scotland, you get to vote over the Scottish Heir. Same is true for any Norse/Asatru invaders holding land there.

So basically you can ignore this election, it doesn't affect you. Just pick anyone to remove the notification.

One thing to point out, is that I'm at the beginning of a play through in the year 867. I am Jal Ivar of the Sudreyjar, a realm located in the northwestern part of the island of Britain. I don't have a liege.

Just to the east is a realm called Alba. Their ruler is Causantin. This realm called Alba consists of two duchies.

However, there is a kingdom called Alba, which includes the realm called Alba mentioned above (two duchies), and several other duchies. Causantin has the title to this kingdom.

I possess a duchy which is inside this kingdom. Incindentally, I have the largest army of the duchies in or around this kingdom!

It's kind of an odd situation, one which I could resolve with war...

The back story seems to be that Causantin claimed the title "King of Alba," even though my army is larger than his.

However, I started the play through already involved in two wars, so I want to bring them to a conclusion first.

Kind of interesting initial conditions.

Sorry, my last post went up at the same time as Crusher's. Yes, title allegiance.

Yeah, I had the sense that who I nominate isn't really that important.

I have possession of a duchy inside this kingdom, and I also have a duchy in Ireland and the island of Mon.

It might be fun to nominate someone who seems very unqualified, like a child of one year old.

Ah, yeah, Crusher's post answers that then. Alba is just the Gaelic name for Scotland. You can safely ignore the election or if see that there are a few close candidates you could try to sway the election with your vote. Depending on your goal, you could try to put in place someone that would be a good ally or someone that might be a bad war leader. If you want to eventually invade the kingdom, try to get the worst candidate to be the next king to make it easier.

Yes, I might want to declare war on the kingdom, so maybe a candidate with low marshal skill...
