basic path is claiming your overlords duchy through claim throne, get enough alliances to trigger a faction war and win it, make sure you got a good priest and start fabriciating a claim on your Hamadan neighbor and let it cycle until it spits out a duchy claim, at the same time swear fealty to the Saffarids/Makran, claim throne and politick and seize that kingdom, afer you have hamadan make sure to move your capitol to Isfahan, holy war/ conquest duchys with priority on nobles that arent iranian culture group, whenever you got a strong enough domain and gold and decent vassal opinion, along with enough troops and allies to defend from the Caliphate you can reveal your secret faith and most of your vassals should convert with you, then clean up whatever margins you need for the Resurgence ending along with farming prestige
theres a bug where the struggle stage seems to still be active but frozen whenever you end it so if you dont want your vassals spamming claim throne dont end the struggle on the unrest phase.
You can't see it straight off from the character selector screen. You have to go into each playable character and have a look at the secrets they have (via the schemes tab and secrets). They also have some special decisions that relate to their secret religion.
The secret faith thing is new. I don't know if you can setup a custom character with this, haven't tried that yet.
