Mongol Invasion broken?
In my game, The Holy Roman Empire ruled all of mainland Europe including my empire of Russia, so it was quite strong and big. The mongols started their invasion and attacked us in 1218 AD, and captured a small amount of counties in the most eastern part of the HRE. Basically, before our armies could even get to their army, they managed to get a 100% war score by capturing around 5-8 counties while we didn't even have the chance to get to them.

It was sad to see such a big empire fall because the mongols captured some of our most undeveloped and unimportant counties. :steamsad:

I was hyped for a big war that could last years, but it ended in 2 minutes and none of us even got the chance to fight them. Was the war score broken or am I missing something?

Mogols conquered kiev and like 4 surrounding provinces, I lost one battle (despite having 65k troops vs their 28K) and now lost the whole HRE, which was basically all of europe. Lots of things seem broken about this game

So this issue happens in several scenarios (including mass results/rebellions).

The problem is that even for a MASSIVE empire, the enemy can get a significant amount of war score for capturing some insignificant backwater county (that isn't even in the targeted land for the war).

So if the opponent is able to get enough counties quickly, before you can gather your troops, they can quickly get to 100%.

Also, the bigger you are and the more your empire spans the world, the longer it takes to gather your troops (and return home).

There are some saving graces though.

You know how when you wage an offensive war, your war score is capped at 50%?

Well in some defensive wars, conquered territory can be capped at 100%.

One time in a prior game (Tribal Norse ruling the world), I changed religion to chase an achievement and it resulted in massive revolts. Now I still had superior forces, but by the time my troops had mustered, there were tiny peasant armies all across the map sieging lots of my counties. They quickly got to 100%. But the thing is, I won a few battles to get a few %'s in battle war score. And since they were capped at 100% for territory, they actually needed to win some battles (which they couldn't). Eventually I put them all down.

You guys are overthinking things by saying it was broken imo. It was supposed to simulate a mongol invasion that painted the map effectively so that it would look somewhere near historical borders, so of course the CB is OP. It was to be used against the AI not a player superpower that holds half the map.

Which works fine in a historical map, but when the HRE extends from Spain to Kazhakstan, the Mongolia can take everything by taking only a few (irrelevant in my opinion) provinces. Perhaps if they declared a war for a *kingdom* only then I would understand, but it just seems weird to me that they can take a whole continent without troops ever setting foot on it.
