Mongol Invasion broken?
In my game, The Holy Roman Empire ruled all of mainland Europe including my empire of Russia, so it was quite strong and big. The mongols started their invasion and attacked us in 1218 AD, and captured a small amount of counties in the most eastern part of the HRE. Basically, before our armies could even get to their army, they managed to get a 100% war score by capturing around 5-8 counties while we didn't even have the chance to get to them.

It was sad to see such a big empire fall because the mongols captured some of our most undeveloped and unimportant counties. :steamsad:

I was hyped for a big war that could last years, but it ended in 2 minutes and none of us even got the chance to fight them. Was the war score broken or am I missing something?

Yeah sure sound broken!

Probably was an invasion of a certain kingdom and they captured all you had of it. Meaning you got a ticking warscore.

An important character may have been captured, such as an heir.

Mongols can win a war very quickly. Try playing as them and get the Great Khan trait, it's incredibly fun. You'll also see how easy it is for them to just absolutely roll people over in very short amounts of time. Not sure why it's not an achievement, since it really should be.

Mongols basically have a unique, and broken Casus Belli. https://ck3.paradoxwikis.com/Casus_belli#CB_list second from the bottom. How is this broken? Read it carefully. They go to war for 1 kingdom a king, or emperor holds. It doesn't matter if the defender has 1 county of that kingdom, or all of it. If the Mongols win they take all titles from the whole kingdom/empire held by hostile/evil faiths, and vassalize everyone else.

This is primarily broken, because as you stated OP Mongols can threaten multiple rulers in a single war when they have absolutely no way to respond to the threat in time.

That's not how that cb works.
You can target a kingdom and will gain all titles in that kingdom which the target ruler holds.
You will not gain titles outside the targeted realm.
It's akin to holy war for kingdom cb and not a great holy war (like Jihad/Crusades).

You will actually. I am actually playing Mongols right now. I took the Kingdom of Persia from Arabian Empire and just got Persia. I then fought them for Kingdom of Mesopotamia and won pretty much all their land, which included Syria and Arabia. I think, but not sure, that they hadn't actually formed the kingdoms of Syria and Arabia so got them but not sure exactly what happened. Either way, I definitely fought for one Kingdom and got titles (or vassals I should say, maybe this is the point) that were outside the realm I fought the war for.

this happened to me once with the mongol invasion so i started to change the way i react to a war now i only have 1 rally point and always move it to where the war is started then your raise all on that point and you are always close to where the target is and this will never happen to you again :)

I recently went for a Lingua Franca, and having already formed Rome and conquered all of Europe I was feeling pretty great. I had already begun expanding into India and I didn't take the Mongols too seriously. I even assassinated Temujin pretty early on. When they declared war on some backwater territories around Kazakhstan I didn't realize what threat they actually were until they quickly sieged a few provinces before I could mobilize my army.

I wasn't aware that in doing so, it would dismantle the entire roman empire. and take all my de jure holdings in Byzantium, leaving me a single title in italy.

Seemed a bit broken. Thankfully I was able to swear fealty to the new khan, and then build up a power base by reconquering all of the former byzantine empire one dutchy at a time before marrying into and then usurping the Mongol empire.

On another game though, going for Iron and Golden King, I stayed a single dutchy in the HRE, (Thuringia) growing tall and not expanding. I was maybe 6 months from the achievement, and then the Mongols declared war on my liege for some unrelated land on the borders.

And then not only was the HRE dismantled, but all of my lands were stolen and given to one of the khan's children. Leaving me a single inherited title in northern italy.

wth? why? How did he get all of my stuff?

Temujin usually dies of stress in my games and the mongols never reach Europe...

In my current game they are nearing Hungary, have reached Byzantium eastern provenances and is fighting over Persia has fallen and fighting Egypt in Iraq-Syrian area. So almost to the Med and all the way north to Baltic sea. 50K+ troops left.

jesus guys im afraid now. Im in Year 1182 and im awaiting the start of the mongolian Empire Rush.
In an Multiplayer game i used to play with a king that was fully Intrigue lifestyle so i could just murder the Khan in 9 Months. After that the Mongolian Empire broke in pieces in 2-3 years and the Rush was over before it started. (even if they had already 70% of the eastern Map)

Atm there is a Crusade. because jerusalem is already mine they wanted to attack Litauen and i changed the crusade to attack mongolia. Even if it was a bad idea because troops that arrive in mongolia are out of Food and starving already i tought it would be funny to expand there...

But now im affraid if i get a piece of land back there they will attack it and steal my kingdome in seconds ._.

A liege can raise troops from anywhere in their domain which consists of their land, and the land of everyone under them so if you have the numbers to beat them, and enough space to raise fully you are good. You can always give a location independence before war is declared for it. Finally only evil/hostile faiths lose land everyone else is vassalized so try to be ready to convert to then away from their faith.

The real danger of the Mongol hoard is to people playing as vassals who can't reasonably act on the danger, and have no idea they are in trouble.

This happened to me today in my ironman game. Reading this felt comforting knowing im not alone.. still feels like i should have gotten the chance to fight back before they capture some random provinces and 100% warscore me and destroy all my titles and empire... sighhh
