Why can't I create a dissolution faction against the mongols?
So, I recently swore fealty to the Mongol empire to avoid getting destroyed by them. I expected that I would be able to start a dissolution faction at some point, but the option is grayed out, and when I hover over the only explanation is that "it is impossible to create a faction against the khan." Does anyone know why this is happening?

Because, the Khan has the character flag is_temujin, which completly blocks factions for all Vassals.

or, in more gameplay/balance terms, since the AI would dissolution/rebel massively against the huge multicultural/religious mongol empire immediately and end the whole event/threat, it was set up so that cannot happen until the original khan dies. So sharpen up that dagger and get his heir on the throne who is not under such protection :cozycastondeath:

But the Devs should not force something in the game like this, if the Khan can not manage his realm well, it should fall apart even before he dies.

This is a Sandbox Game and not a History Game.

And if the Devs want to ensure Loyalty to the Khan, they should simply add an Event, who gives the Khan, the Loyalty Hook against all Vassals.
Thanks for the info, I ended up murdering the Khan and then the empire split, and i was able to create a dissolution faction against my new Mongol liege

It's not really a full sandbox game either though. It's basically Historical Fiction: The Game. There is nothing wrong with including a few semi-scripted events (Mongol invasion, the plague, William the Bastard ...er Conqueror taking the English throne in like 90% of games).

Right, this is absolutely an alternative history sandbox game. Just like EU4, where there are tons of scripted events based on history. The medieval era is naturally more speculative, but one of the main appeals of CK3 is its historical attention to detail.
