Gloucstershire I think - in england - the amount of gold it produces is less than germany/serbia but its trade off is the mine has a tax multiplier which helps a lot. its a duchy capital for tax building +30%. its already feudal in 867 so no issue there. it has a forest which isnt the best but it has access to all the other main gold buildings like windmills and watermills. (and foresters still give some gold). its also the county capital unlike Sardinia or the mine in south france where you lose one building slot for it being a minor barony. Im not saying its the best best in the game - but to get that achievement it did me very well :whitesheep:

I was planning on using the mine in Bohemia, but it's not a duchy capital. as long as you got the achievement using Gloucstershire, that's all I needed to hear, thanks :)

Wouldn't starting at 867 make the achievement take longer?

Well I did that from the 1046 start, indeed works, though obviously takes a while.

Bohemia's mine itself might not be as good alone but Bohemia's duchy is just insane with the amount of farmland and holdings it has. You can litterally just keep that single duchy and give everything else away and still be filthy rich.

The Ratnapura Mines in Lanka are a good start as you will need to build some later era buildings, and the high development and advanced tech of southern India let you get there faster than almost anyone else. The hills terrain is fine and the mine starts already built.
Mali gold is famous for a reason you know.
But i don't see why would you need a mine located in a duchy capital specifically. Aren't most of the economical bonuses designed to benefit the whole duchy?

Great Moravia or Bohemia gives you two mines right off the bat, one in Caslav and one in Trencin. I usually keep the Moravian and Bohemian duchies for myself as well as the two mines, they're right there next to the capital Olumnac or whatever.

From there if you go northwest with some conquering you can get the good mine in Thuringia near the mountain.

Bohemia is probably the strongest territory in the game. it has three 6 tile counties, numerous farmland tiles, and a mine.

Bohemia was a key focal point during the struggles between Poland, Hungary, and the Holy Roman Empire, so it would make sense for them to want to make it special. Similarly, the territories around Krakow in Poland are also huge. There are a ton of 5-6 tile counties all around it, even in the mountains. Feudalizing Poland and building up the area around Krakow is also some big bucks.
