Infuriating game
I just spent hours forming Sweden I had most of Sweden and Denmark under my control. On my third heir..... Guy slipped and felll getting out of the bathtub once...... No problem. Literally 2 mins later he ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slips getting out of the tub again.... Gets a trait which IS LIKE -6 TO EVERY FCKN STAT. He is now extremely mentally retarded because his confidence is so shaken by not being able to get out of the tub alone. So my brother tries to take the throne. I lose our version of 900 ad rap battle so brother now rules the tiny kingdom of Sweden which were his former holdings. I am now the King of Denmark for reasons....

I quit the game. That was the most INCREDIBLY idiotic thing I have ever experienced in a "strategy game".

It was expected, RNG in a game were one does not have control over that kind of thing make it infurianting. Learn from Boshy, make things predicable or at least give the player tools to understand the situation or fix the problem that way it won't happen again. For example after the first time, you have an event to fix the toilet if the character is smart or have a good doctor. Putting sticks in the wheel does not make it challenged just annoying. Characters will die or unfortunate events will happen, but at least make it manageable or easy to understand.

I guess I'm in the minority camp because I felt the game was too easy and this makes the game slightly harder. And it also combats the meta strategy of living until 100 and filling out 6 perk trees and all the health buffs you can find to make your ruler a vampire god.

It's not "random". It happens more often as you age. If your "strategy" is to go into old age and live as long as possible, this is a factor to consider when pursuing that goal.

The President of the United States just tripped on stage yesterday. He's 84 years old. Everyone is talking about if he's okay now and if he has any permanent brain damage. It's a real thing that happens all the time in real life. He also hit his head coming out of Marine One (the presidential helicopter) on the same day.

When my king slipped getting out of the tub he wasnt injured. He literally became mentally retarded because his confidence was so shaken by not being able to get out of the tub alone without slipping an falling. He was also in his 30's.

So my theory on why it says that thing about "confidence" or whatever is because brain damage and mental retardation is something of a sensitive subject for some people.

for me it's not even that things happen but how they happen, to where the RNG events seem predatory in what they're trying to accomplish. just started a new playthrough as chief of neeric. comes w/ a sterile heir right off the rip. no biggie, i'll just put him down and have another boy. hit 3 girls in a row, and finally hit another boy. he gets sick, and my physician decides the only way to cure him is to chop his ♥♥♥♥ off... so now after 15 years of rule i have a sterile son and one w/o a ♥♥♥♥... seems like the game has an agenda, RNG or not at that point. not to say this isn't a correctable situation still, but when considering the full situation it's hard to accept 'random' as this isn't a one off, or even uncommon.

So this may be my first time ever posting on Steam. Weird. Anyways, here’s my problem with the mechanic:

If this happened once per generation of rulers to one ruler in the entire game then fine, but with this new mechanic it makes humanity a miracle to have survived the invention of bathtubs.

What happened to Barbarossa is infamous because it was an historic “bolt from the blue.”

It’s not like every other ruler in history also lived and died like they were King Dxck van Dxke.

Exactly, the fact that anyone past 40 now has the chance to either straight up die or become braindamaged is moronic lol

I literally had the event where you fall of your horse with an 80% chance to die 3 times in a row on 3 successive rulers. Something is for sure off with the randomness. I advice you to make a bug report on paradox forum though, since i doubt that they actually check up on this forum.

As I have said above... the problem with the RNG mechanics is not that "bad" outcomes can happen... arguably nothing that happens in CK 3 is truly "bad" unless it wipes out your dynasty. There's always someone else to play, and if your heir is lousy you can assassinate him or something.

The problem is that the RNG events are so repetitive. It's not that the OP's king died, it's that the OP got the SAME exact super-unlikely random event twice in rapid succession.

I've started a new play through, as Duke and now King of Bohemia in the 1066 start... And once again, in the first 20 or so years of that king's reign, I have seen a ridiculous number of events repeat. It's like there is a small set of 20 or 30 random events and they just keep recycling. And the rate at which they happen is so rapid that you'll get the same event sometimes more than once in an in-game year. Hunts, feasts, child rearing, you name it... the random events are chosen from a tiny set, and keep repeating over and over again.

THAT's the problem... not the fact of the random events themselves. If the OP's character had slipped in the tub, and then in the next RNG event, been gored by a deer on a hunt, maybe the OP doesn't even come here to complain. But when the same one-in-a-thousand chance happens twice in rapid succession, it's just... stupid. There's no other word for it.

And frankly, lazy on the part of the devs. How hard would it be to take a lookup table with 10 lines of flavor text, and just pay some intern to type 10 or 20 more?

No No No, you posters are getting it all wrong. Its not stupid that the OP got the same one-in-a-thousand chance RNG event twice in a row, its FUN !!!! That's what is fun about CKIII. Let's face it, CK3 is too easy, everyone admits it, so the funnest way to make the game less easy is to kill off your rulers as soon as possible after they turn 20. That is making the game truly fun, oh and harder, because that's the best way to make the game harder too. So stop complaining about it and start having the fun.

40? My first play through since the new patch my ruler got the foreboding event at 17. Ten years later he was a vegetable.

Just do yourself a favor and turn it off. Hopefully they will update or add a setting to make these events a lot, lot rarer, so they actually feel like an act of God that you have to play around, rather than a predictable and frustrating free version of Know Thyself.
