Russia (Region, not State) in 880 is the Kievan Rus.
Without getting too geopolitical here, Modern-day Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine all claim Kievan Rus' as their cultural ancestor. The Capital of the Kievan Rus is Kyev. It's because of this reason to why the Russian Federation has a Casus Beli on Ukraine... and current events... oversimplified.

PDX, during the outbreak of the invasion, changed the spelling of the city to its Ukrainian instead of Russian, as a small show of solidarity to the Ukrainian people.

Не заглиблюючись у геополітичні теми, сучасні Білорусь, Росія та Україна стверджують, що Київська Русь є їхньою культурною предкою. Столицею Київської Русі є Київ. Саме з цієї причини Російська Федерація має casus beli проти України... і поточні події... надто спрощені.

PDX на початку вторгнення змінила написання міста на українську замість російської на знак солідарності з українським народом.

Тобто зараз в грі написано що це Rusia а не Russia правильно?
Просто Русь "Київською Руссю" почали називати набагато пізніше чим 1200 роки.
Якщо ви змінили це я дуже вражений і дякую за це

Should that be, though ? The game is historical (at least, before you press the Start button) and I think it should stay that way. There's more, better way to support Ukraine than changing history.

Changing language/spelling is not changing history.
It's similar to English with "Color" vs "Colour."
Swapping between American English versus British English is not rewriting history.
