[Beginner] Good smaller places to start eaither 1066 or 867
So ive basically just started playing ck3 and its my first ck game so i'm not very familiar with the concepts, i'm still learning everything and i'm having a blast doing so, so far i love the game to death even though i don't have much of a clue what i am doing.

i was wondering what would be a god place to start thats not too big, maybe a county or dutchy, despite a larger kingdom will probably be easier however i wanna start small then grow big if you know what i mean. Whether they are independent or within a kingdom i dont really mind just somewhere fun.

Thanks :)

Edge of the map is good on the East side because you only have enemies on one side of you. (or you have no where to run, if that's how you want to look at it, but getting attacked from all sides does suck)
Disclaimer: I have yet to play 1.9, as I'm waiting for certain mods to update, first, as I expect to have to start over once they do.

I've always liked playing in Sardinia (Cagliari). It's relatively easy to grow yourself large enough to become a king (just need to conquer one more duchy), there are some nice special building options (I understand that one of the better one was moved to your vassal in 1.9; not sure why, or how hard it would be to reclaim it from them), and you start as culture head (allowing you to direct the innovations).

Other details: You're close enough to Majorca, strategically, that you can conquer it and get involved in the Spanish struggle, if you want. You're close enough to the holy lands to get to most of the major Crusade targets easy enough (certainly easier than CK2's Ireland, which was the favorite starter spot for newcomers in that game). Biggest drawback is you have absolute trash, for the most part, for your starting councilmen.
