You have a tiny Time Window, to change it to an Grand Wedding, because the AI can forces you, for some unknown Reason, to accept, even most Actions the AI can take against the Player, can always be refused by the Player, unless the AI uses a Strong Hook.
Hmm. I wonder if I could break the betrothal and try to marry someone else...
So, for my case, I had at one time set up a marriage and it did not fire off since dismissing a relative sent them away and somehow made the marriage enter hibernation ;). Once I invited the "dismissed" courtier back, marriage automatically fired off.
In terms of wedding ceremonies...I have not figured out any way to work around except only once where I saved and exited out and reloaded and allowed me to fire the event off. Aside from that, without taking a penalty, I think only murder works.
Pretty sad that cheating doesn't allow for a break on marriage without penalty.
