The Harm system is just atrocious and needs rebalancing, it should not happen that quickly or frequently, I wasn't even given a CHANCE to get an heir yet (non-stop romancing and seducing, but like in so many other playthroughs my wives only pump out daughters) and not given a chance to avoid the event in any way either. It's just flat out "80% chance your game that you set up is over now". That's just stupid.
I know the events are tweakable, but there needs to be a more reasonable option to pick from. Right now our options are either
- Standard, aka "RNG can randomly mark your characters for death and kill the player off at any moment, which in unmodded games with 200+ years of partition would also be absolute hell, not to mention ruin the entire point of the skilltrees and end games early because LOL 80% DICEROLL.
or
- Illusion of safety (unexplained what it does unless someone is willing to datamine, why isn't that setting properly explained?)
or
- "Turn the system off" (stupid because the IDEA behind it is solid and the game needs a way to shake up the mid-to lategame, but the current implementation is just trash, RNG stacked ontop of RNG with a heavy (80%) bias against the player)
Developers need to fix this balance issue ASAP. Shouldn't have to play in "safe" mode.
I've already seen too many rulers incapable and it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying.
That might merit a 3-fingered salute.
I've been playing on safe for forever now, but I still try to avoid wrestling tournaments because getting my neck snapped is extremely common still (even from people with less than half my prowess).
But I don't think it does when you purposefully enable an option to disable such occurrences. I just think the tournament coding is separate and unaffected, which sucks, but even savescumming can be difficult in some cases.
For instance I "solved" one of these by sabotaging the specific dude that was going to kill me, but that's already annoying because it was against my character's traits.
Another time I straight up had to install a cheat menu and murder the dude or renounce my campaign. It really sucks.
There's a lot going sour with % in the tournament DLC related content (hunts seem super borked for me and the archery win% is always wrong, for instance) but the killing thing is what gets to me because of the safe setting.
Henry II of France says hello.
I've died from laughing once. It was a tiny 1% chance and very inconvenient but that was at least my fault for picking the prompt. Those kind of "harm events" are a lot more fulfilling then "whoooaa, I stepped out of bed too quickly, try to grab a curtain! Oh I"m dead."
