You'll get both 'yes' and 'no' answers.

Personally, since Stellaris costs like $250+ dollars to play the full experience, I'd say it's way more worth it, because it saves you a penny.

How many hours have you put into Stellaris? Divide the money you spent by the hours, and see what your hourly rate is.

Why do you play Stellaris? Is your motivation map painting or creating your own narrative/story?

If it's map painting, Stellaris does it better than CK3. If it's role play? CK3 does it better.

Do you play Stellaris to completion, or until you're bored with that playthrough?
CK3 is very boring, in my opinion, late game.

Also, the namesake of Crusader Kings 3, the crusades, is a chunky, clunky, horrible mess with AI and logistics at the moment..

Still, the religion, culture, and dynasty abilities of CK3 are very fun! You can really make a powerful religion and culture and spread it across the world.
There are some basic decisions and unique decisions that add nice flavor.

CK3 does cater well to the family intrigue/political drama/game of thrones type crowd. Although the actual mod for that is still in development.

CK3 is completely different from Stellaris. My first Paradox game was Stellaris console edition (I still play often). CK3 was my 2nd game from Paradox and I enjoy it.

If you are looking for more of an RP game with a few strategy elements this will work.

If you are looking for more of a medieval strategy game with RP I would recommend CK2 with the sub for a month.

IS Ck3 worth it?
No, honestly no. I'd recommend to come back in 4-5 years when the game gets 2 new DLC in that span of time at the pace things going.

Ck3 is so bare bones, you need mods just to make it tolerable, and thats not a good thing, it's not good because then it shows devs they don't need to do much to make money.

In short, it's not worth it, just get CK2. EUIV is good too, but ♥♥♥♥ paying 400 bucks.

As someone that plays both Stellaris and CK3 (CK3 first) I love both, but for slightly different reasons. If you like creating a narrative for your species/galactic civilization and sort of role-playing it, I think you may enjoy CK3. But know that CK3 is more about the individuals in your family/dynasty than it is about your population like in Stellaris.

this is actually a nice topic to stumble into, CK3 has been my first paradox game and wondered how much RP there was in stellaris.

I'd love a paradox style game in the dune universe or something, with intrigue and marriage.

You're definitely able to RP in Stellaris, but you don't have family/dynasty like in CK3. There are some leader characters you can recruit, but they don't have or form stories like characters in CK3. You'd be RP-ing your entire galactic empire, not individual characters/rulers.

I agree that having a large space version of CK3 would be really cool

Don't know why people list Stellaris as a roleplay game, because it absolutely is not.
Sometimes players say they are "roleplaying" when they simply play in a ethical way.

E.g. my empire is a Xenophile Democracy, so i don't take a certain action, although i technically could and it may be slightly profitable. But calling this "roleplaying" is actually the demeaning, condescending second meaning of the word on the internet. I remember playing World of Warcraft, and we called anyone who didn't min-max raiding and pvp'ing the "Roleplayers".

Stellaris is an empire builder, a grand strategy, 4x, resource management game. While Crusader Kings has many elements you'd expect from an RPG, wether the many personality effects, the lifestyle skill trees (CRPG), the story events and choices, and so on.

Ironically the actual gameplay in CK3 from day one mainly consists of declaring- and waging war, while Stellaris can be played by just building your empire for 50-100 years and then dealing with threats with vastly advanced military.

You should take a look at Alliance of the Sacred Suns. It's not out yet, but there is a demo.
Definitely will, that is for the suggestion!

Because it's how some people actually play the game. Whether you personally feel it's possible to play that way or not is irrelevant.

Always love people who write a rude reply after reading the first line in the first paragraph.

Your opinions on other people's opinions is about the most irrelevant part of the internet.

Trust me, I read the whole thing, I just didn't want to regurgitate the rest.

There's absolutely nothing rude about my post. You said you didn't know why people list Stellaris as a role-playing game. I'm telling you why, because people play it that way. What's actually rude here is the rest of the post where you claim people labeling it as role-playing are being condescending, simply because you don't feel it's a role-playing game.

The irony is that your whole post is an "opinion on other people's opinions", yet that's okay.

That was less of a rude reply and more of a spot on reply to be honest. You might not have liked what they said but it is true none the less.

I own both and for me it's yes. CK3 is a little bit more intimate i would say.
We are managing characters instead of nation.
