1.8 and up is a disaster
Devs must have made sensitive changes.. For 6 hours, I have been trying to play with my mods, to no avail. I went through them all. Sometimes some mods work, then sometimes they crash. Out of the 80 mods that I have I have to deactivate pretty much ALL of them to actually play the game.. I am absolutely tired of this process ever-time the devs release an update..

I would actually now prefer the devs to leave the game at 1.7.2 (bastion) and move on to other games, so modders and gamers can finally work on long term mods and unofficial patches, without us having to worry about the next update which is going to corrupt our current playthrough and the entire mod-list that you painstakingly tested for days..

If your mods dont run on 1.8... dont play on 1.8...
Turn off auto update. Make local backups of the mods you like. Play on whatever version you'd like.

This is entirely a you issue. You are the solution to your issues.

You can roll back to previous updates at any time.

Or if we're looking for stupid, extreme decisions like "end support on the game so mods never go out of date," maybe the devs should just remove mod support so mods going out of date isn't an issue anymore, since clearly "Google the simple solution to my problem" is not something some players can handle.

The thing that cracks me up is posts like this, the "Devs update the game too often" run alongside the "Abandon-ware fear-mongering"

We offer older versions of the game via Beta branches on Steam if you'd prefer to stay on a specific version.

So you would rather they abandon this game and move onto something else just so your mods don't break? The selfishness in that thought alone is astounding. You sound like someone who only thinks about yourself. Just me me me me me all the time is that about right?

Not to mention the fact that you can keep playing whatever version you want, but since you are so lazy that a few extra clicks is just to much for you, you would rather they dump this game.

What a freaking joke.

How would you go about to make backups of your mods?
So technically if say, everything works perfectly in version A of the game, I could go into my files, make a backup of all my 80 mods (downloaded from workshop) and be ready for the next official game update? Could you maybe share a few instructions on the process, so that anyone in my shoes, can use this method too ?

Thanks !

I searched for guides online and found:

It seems quite difficult to back up mods. Toblm, please share your method of backing up mods, so that when they auto-update, i can just use my backed-up mods.

That thread has the general gist of it. It isnt difficult exactly, it is more work.

Copy the contents of steam mod 'whatever mod you like' (or find it else where in a static versioned format), rename it ie
"move the backup copy to the My Documents mod folder and edit the .mod file and descriptor.mod file to match.",
then boot off the local static copied version.

Or as others suggested in that thread you could see about making your own mod using the amalgamation of your current mod list and the Irony launcher that is mentioned. But thats not something I've done.

It's generally better to not download mods off of the Steam Workshop if you don't want them to auto-update. Somewhere like Nexus is better for mods that you want to keep static versions. Of course, not all mods are available outside of the Steam Workshop, but many are available on multiple platforms.
