What made devs remove regencies?
I read somewhere Ck3 was trying to move away from map painting and more into roleplaying, but having 3 year old sitting on throne rooms as judges or deciding whether to wage war or not is immersion breaking. Maybe they removed it because it was boring at times, but if this was the case I would have liked to see it reworked rather than completely removed.

I think some folks just didn't like not having complete control. I personally think it's worth putting in as a gameplay option. If people don't want regencies they can disable it in options, but I agree that toddler tyrants kind of sours the immersion.

The hardest I ever laughed in CK2 was when my ruler became old and infirm and my 'charitable' wife (who was also my regent when I became bed-ridden) was giving away my gold and all I could do was mumble my disapproval. The writing was hilarious (right up there with the 'bees' medical treatment).

The cynical in me would say that this way they can sell the regency mechanic in a future DLC.
But it's Paradox they NEVER would do that, right?

Tbf the DLC are more likely going to be "funny" meme events and OP mechanics that the AI is unable to use.

It is probably because a part of player asked for it.
You have a class of player who imagine the king like a 7 years old child imagine him. The mighty king have all powers, he can do what he want, what the king say is the law. Closest exemple that came to me is Staline.

Regency removal follows the whole game direction ; makes it more casual, simplier and easier.

At ck3 you are also less dependant from your vassals.

If they brought back a council system like they had in Ck2 I would actually buy that DLC. They'd have to price it really high though, because I might be the only one. A lot of people hated it, but I thought it was a better reflection of how lords had some say in decisions in some cultures during the time frame. You could always just ignore them and take the tyranny penalty or just outright abolish the council.

I really think regencies at least should make a comeback. There's a whole lot of potential events and decisions you could make if you the player were chosen as regent. The devs could put so much more depth into the responsibility of a regent . . . if they wanted to.
