Any "must have" mods?
Stuff people can't play without? QoL? UI? Events? I've struggled to get into CK3 compared to CK2 so maybe some enhancement mods might help?

VIET and RICE for events. Community Flavor Pack for flavor.

Anything else depends on what you want.

I'm very familiar with VIET from CK2, glad to hear it's still as good with 3.

Carnalitas [18+ NSFW mod] You won't get it from the steam workshop.

My personal favs are

No Holy Sites Needed - For me this is a big one. I dont really see the point of needing Holy Sites to reform or create a head of faith for religions. I mean I understand the general concept for gameplay, but for me i just find it kinda stupid.

Stress Reducer - I originally got this one to counter the infamous 'stress death spiral' and for that single purpose this mod works great. Basically, if you have a super large family of children and grandchildren, when one dies, they all get a boost to stress. Since the AI doesnt manage stress very well, it can lead to another ones death. Then another. Then another. And soon your entire family can be halved or more.

Remove Child Cap (For players) - Mainly because I like having a big family and I find the soft cap for children kinda silly. Though as a general rule of thumb dont go past 40 kids, or I generally try to keep it around 10-20. Simply due to the funky wunky things it does to your family tree.

Easier High Kingdom of the North Sea - While its very specific, if at any point you want to form the empire of the North Sea. This mod is a must have . In vanilla, you need to hold each kingdom, norway, denmark and england for a grand total of 30 years. Thats absurd. Especially since you could very easily be 60 or 70 before you consolidate all three. This mod essentially just removed the time limit on them. Everything else staying the same.

Honorable mention too

Immortality Improved - If you ever want to play in the more 'supernatural' realm. Immortality is great. It basically makes your character immortal (immortal not invincible, despite the boosts they can still die of non-natural causes). While I dont recommend it for average play, for a specific play with headcanon it can be great fun. I did one in Transylvania where I pretended my duchess was a vampire. It was a blast.

I wasn't aware there was a child cap. Any idea where the cap is?

Afaik its specific to rank. With Counts being somewhere around 5 and Emperor around 15. With Duchy and King being somewhere in the middle (8 and 12 iirc). It is a soft cap, so you can still have kids out of a yearly seduction scheme, or if you really put a heavy emphasis on fertility, you could have another one or two. But yeah, the cap is there.

Note that its really only noticable on the conditions your male and your either poly or concubine marriages. For the simple reason that for women, their fertility decreases by 5% every time they have a child. And once they drop below 50% fertility, iirc its improbable they will have any children. So if your in a monogamous marriage, chances are you will hit your wives natural cap before you hit the built in soft cap. Or if your playing as a woman.

''Sinews of War'' - population, migration, just better simulation of medieval times. I personally love the touch of having levies depended on population in your realm and etc.

Sinews of war have also section of compatible mods. usually immersion, encrichments but also rework of few mechanics. Definitelely try SRE (Social Relationship Expanded).

On SOF, you can get some error of missing pixel on domains. I just make savegame and load again which solves it. Game then runs fine without visual bugs or errors, dunno why this happen maybe some conflict in my playlist.

More Game Rules + Random World. These two mods work combined (been using them forever) and you can use both of these mod's settings to either alter the experience a little bit (such as randomizing development) or otherwise generate a completely new random world. Pretty cool though it doesn't work with most complete overhaul mods, thinking of new bookmarks+ for example.
