I'm already an Emperor so that's no issue and defeating him militarilly even with all his mercenaries is not an issue either I've basically been playing tall at the empire level so my empire is very strong for it's size and the year (1200)
And he can't excommunicate me because I'm not a christian.
My question relates to crown authority and holy wars/head of faith. Does crown authority trump his ability to call crusades and holy wars?
unfortunately, it's not entirely true. The decision is not available to african pagan faiths only Norse, Baltic and Finnish faiths along with muslims.
Since I'm a reformed Kushite religion, unfortunately then I can't take the decision even if I fulfill the requirements, which incidentally why I was asking.
Killing him doesn't solve the problem because then he just gets replaced by another and neither does taking away all his landed titles because at that point he just because an unlanded ruler walking around with a king level title.
So I thought if I could force him to become my vassal and use crown authority to put him in his place by putting him a position where he could not declare war on me or my vassals because of my high crown authority, then he'd be forced to stew in one county and shut the hell up. Which would solve the problem
But if high crown authority doesn't stop the pope from declaring crusades and holy wars, then it's effectively pointless for me to waste time to cross the meditteranean to force him into vassalage.
A AI vassal can only attack his liege through civil wars.
I did it, multiple times with pope, by claiming rome with my realm priest and after the war the pope was my vassal.
