I think I found King Arthur's heir
I was digging around in Welsh dynasty trees today when I found something interesting. Looking through the Gwent Dynasty tree, I found Prince Arthwys ap Meurig, a historical character some scholars say is the historical basis for King Arthur. I followed his lineage down to Lord Meurig ab Arthfael, Count of Gwent in 867, and dynasty head of Gwent. I figured I'd try him out to see if he'd be interesting at all to play as.

I switched to him and was surprised to see I had a Court Artifact notification. I opened it up and saw that I had immediately gained possession of Excalibur. This seemed to confirm that Meurig was the rightful heir to King Arthur, at least in the eyes of the developers.

I was pleasantly surprised at all this and found it really interesting. I figured I'd make this post as no one else seems to have discovered it. Kudos to the dev who put that little easter egg in. Do you guys know of any other "secret" starts like this one?

As the King of Wessex, I had three "Excaliburs".

I suspect that the idea is that anyone can name a sword Excalibur

He isn't related to anyone from King Arthur's legend and he's a bit late to the party. The Heptarchy was a sure thing by Arthwy's reign in CK3 which is, in my opinion, the opposite of King Arthur's legend. I suppose it's still possible, but I think it's a stretch to put developer intent behind it because Arthwy was, probably, just a real person they added.

But, yeah, conquering the British Isles as Gwent would be re-enacting King Arthur's legend regardless as their line probably includes king Arthur somewhere. At the very least, they're a long-lived house that've seen a lot.

There are hundreds of Excaliburs in Britain, all claiming to the real one. It's meant to be a joke.

It would be amazing if you could collect them and make an Iron Throne out of 'em.
You would know if it was True Excalibur as it would be Legendary grade with some really good stats.

Otherwise its probably just an above average sword.

The real Excalibur is in Disneyland and some muscleman named "Sam" (technically King Sam), managed to wrench it loose back in 2020 using brute strength.
