Also, another avenue that makes use of the Seduce skills for intrigue players is handy for making a human shield. I think you can have up to 6 lovers in play (though you'll get stress from juggling so many) but they all provide a chance of foiling a murder attempt.
Your food taster (if you have royal court), gives you a chance to foil a food based murder plot but they are likely to die in your place.
Lastly, you receive one get out of jail free card if you get all of the intrigue based dynasty legacies, rank 5 of the Guile legacy gives every member of the dynasty 1 free save against murder.
One of my Emperors recently had been targeted at least a dozen times without success. They killed his daughter and wife, but didn't manage to get him. There is an intrinsic difficulty against HVTs (high value targets). If you are a courtier with a grudge, it's much harder if you are plotting against an Emperor. Something else that also plays into success is religion, it is much harder to carry out a plot against a foreign leader, if they don't like your religion because they can see you coming and that is somewhat modelled and accounted for in CK3.
I play Iron Man a lot, and have had some real annoying campaigns but its fun that way.
I often struggle playing as Clan with the Muslim characters. Unlike Feudal (which I have some chance of handling) Clan tend to be very successful in ganging up on me. I haven't mastered them fully yet. At least with most of the Muslims they are Polygamous so give you three second wives as a meat shield, you've just got to get them as lovers.
I've pulled off some 5% chances in the game, so I wouldn't want that to be erased or an auto-failure. I often think with the balance, everything taken or given to you as a benefit is taken or given to the AI as well. So sometimes it might hurt, but as long as you know how to play the system it's okay. I've had some Monarchs who have been months or days away from major decisions, dying just before I could hit the button. But I kind of love that too. You learn from that.
I recently failed the Campeadores attempt. For some reason the child of Rodrigo and Sanchez didn't count, I think it was because his son inherited the Vivar lineage, and I'd married the daughter instead. I failed Fika and it took me until 1300 to realise that I'd diverged after forming the duchy, instead of being a Count (but it was still a fun game).
I've had some characters who I thought were going to be terrible with their traits, turning out to be the campaign highlight. I've had this one Breton Emperor called Cornelion, who is currently 79, fine of health, has conquered a huge swathe of territory, created a new faith, consecrated the bloodline, overcome massive odds, and still has some time on the clock (oh and he managed to get Primogeniture Succession while he was at it).
Don't be too worried about the murder. If it's meant to be it's meant to be. Character building. It sucks when the partition kicks in, but you can always have a dash of bad blood with the new guy/gal.
Tell me, op, how do you know the success chance of plots against you?
You can avoid rivals, by being selective in who you execute. Be careful who you kill in prison. I realise that going for major dread is a tactic for keeping your vassals at bay, but rivals will come for you. It's best to avoid landed characters or those with big families. Unattached nobodies won't have people baying for your blood.
Also, be careful with tyranny. And if you are going to revoke titles, take all of the titles from the revokee, and release them under "renounce claims".
