Dissolution Factions. Do they work?
I started and won a dissolution faction (after murdering my way down to a child heir). My understanding was that it would break apart the empire, and it said the primary title was destroyed but only thing changed is that me (and the other vassals who rebelled) are independent. The Empire still exists and covers a substantial area.

you sure you did not just join an independence faction? or that the kingdom and the empire have the same name and you are just staring at a still sizable empire? generally, the top title will be destroyed, all the people whose title is of the same rank as the original empire/kingdom holder become independent, and those who are of lower rank will still be vassals of the original target, so even if you break aprt an empire or kingdom if the realm mostly consisted of counts it can still be quite sizable afterwards.

Yes I too have seen this behaviour. It was definitely a dissolution faction and it was just the rebels that no longer had a liege when we won the war. The kingdom we were trying to "dissolve" continued.

So in my particular example, I was Duke of Galacia under the Kingdom of Asturia. After the war was won.. I became an independent Duke. The Kingdom of Asturia carried on as before.... exactly the same titles on the King.

Dissolution factions are working fine for me in 1.6.1.2

just started a test game in debug mode using yesman to test it and did it to both Al-Andalus and Byzantine empire and both dissolved without issue

Edit: the only time its not working for me is if the liege has multiple same top tier titles as i just did another test Using King of italy to instantly take the Kingdoms of East and West Francia then switched to Duke of Tuscany and launched a Dissolution war and all that happened there is the Duke of Tuscany became independant, Kingdom of Italy title was destroyed but West Francia then became his primary title keeping all his other vassals.

This glitch happened to me recently. Was playing a multiplayer game in the Byzantine empire and the emperor had a dissolution faction form. He lost it, but all that happened was that the rebel factions gained independence. (He only had the Byzantine Empire, no others)

I've made a mod that fixes the dissolution faction not destroying titles bug here:

Had the ssame problem. I was king of navarra and vassal to the empire of France. Started a dissolution war (i was the only member of the faction), won it and became indépendant but the empire of France still existed after the war.
