Gay rulers possible?
Yeah I am considering to get this game. Sounds interesting enough but wanna know if it is possible to create gay rulers or non-heterosexual ones?

Sometimes so many rulers are gay it legit gets in the way of your dynastic plans.

What does Lover/Soulmate do? Because aren't they also a roll per month--but they don't boost fertility...?

Yay, more stuff to learn about CK3's innerworkings, thank you for giving me this thought!

Anyways, 25% extra fertility for lovers/soulmates.

-----

As for gay characters, I don't think they have a fertility penalty like they did in CK2. Could be wrong, I didn't look that hard. However, even if gay characters did have a fertility penalty (or even if you consider no lovers a penalty) I still don't think it'd be too bad for a play-through because each ruler gets an extra 30% fertility chance for their first kid. (and fertility works as an average between the two parents which just makes it even easier if there was anything funky going on)

Edit: But adoption would still be cool especially as a cultural tradition. Really like that suggestion. (adoption isn't in the game, just think it'd be a good inclusion)

I was actually hoping when the culture system rework happended that there would be some sort of adoption-esque tradition in there somewhere you could take. I've had characters in some previous playthroughs that I essentially "took under my wing" (from a loyal family of knights that served me for decades, for example, and all their relaltives died) and it would have been really cool to adopt them and make them a member of my dynasty because of what their family contributed to mine throught the years. That couple with a story of not having an heir, or having an heir that doesn't deserve the throne, so you give it to an adopted child, would be really cool. Just adds to the RP and stories this game can make.

Sorry Mod Dude/Dudette, but I think you ought to re-read the thread. All posts appear to be on topic and legitimate answers to what appears to be a legitimate question.

That's because the off-topic posts have been removed.

Kudos to the Moderator for taking the time to weed out the troll posts, rather than taking the easier route of just the deleting the whole thread (which I suspect is the goal of many Steam trolls)

"Being asexual or homosexual in a heterosexual pairing will produce heirs at a very slow rate to nonexistent, but it makes you immune to hetero-seduction and romance schemes."
Right there.

Yea, miscommunication, to me that has nothing to do with fertility (the game mechanic).
I understand where you're coming from though, but I wasn't even considering fertility as a thought process when I wrote that post!

After considering it though, fertility (%) is basically your chance to have a child each month, correct? What does Lover/Soulmate do? Because aren't they also a roll per month--but they don't boost fertility...?

As far as I'm aware, soulmate/lover only affects the number of children as far as the fact that you get a "free" child from the initial seduction scheme.

Lover and Soulmate both add 25% Fertility

Come to think of it, why do we know of gay rulers? The coming out of closets didn't really begin until several centuries later. Wouldn't being gay in the middle ages be considered a secret to keep or risk life thing?

Odd how it was considered normal in the ancient world but in the medieval world suddenly it was a sin. I think there are some cultures or religions that accepted it?

this is not history accurate game and you can have set of culture and religion that makes gay and incest perfectly fine

Yes, some were okay with it and there are some religions in the game that are accepting of it as well.

After all things are said and done... I just don't get why it is so important for OP to be playing as a gay character. So much that OP's decision to buy or not to buy the game depends on it.
It's not like every character OP is going to play as is going to be gay.

I never cared about the sexuality of characters I've played.
As long as the game or the story is good, who cares...

Different people have different preferences. OP is allowed to have theirs. No big deal.

We know of "gay" rulers from the few who were powerful enough to not care what people thought or from rumors and claims afterwards that may or may not be credible. Trying to guess someone's sexuality from over a thousand years ago is pretty much impossible in most cases.

Ofcourse, I certainly wasn't implying OP isn't entitled to OP's preference.
I just don't understand the fixation on sexuality.
