Vassals land being occupied
I have a situation where I, Kingdom Title holder, have granted a Jarldom to a vassal, then given that Jarl a Chiefdom vassal.

They're at war, I'm not in the war, and they're losing badly with several occupied territories.

I have several questions. I've never played a game like this before, what am I missing about why it wouldn't have pulled me into a war when my vassals were attacked? What do we do about the inevitable robot uprising? Is there a way I can join myself to a war?

I have no mods installed and own all the DLC, if that matters.

Edit: I'm not very good at this game. So what's really happening is that the Chief is attacking his Jarl liege (???), and they're not getting me involved. I obviously cannot attack my own vassals or whatever. I'm so confused about why I can't leverage some way to stop them, but I now understand what's going on and why I don't get automatically dragged into it. I will still possess the lands at the end regardless of the victor as they will still be my vassal...probably?

I am guessing it's a Vassal vs Vassal war, check the war participants. Raise crown authority to stop vassals from going to war against each other.

If a foreign ruler wants to get your vassals lands, he must declare war on you.

edit. Yes you will still own the land. Vassals are just having a power struggle. You might get a new Jarl / Duke.

Hey thanks for the response, it all makes sense if I learn what I'm looking at, I was just seeing "neutral lords" armies roaming everywhere and lands were striped to tell me they were occupied and it was all a bit of a process of stepping back through titles and nobles to work out who was doing what.

I think it's only if you are allied with your vassal you can get drawn into a war that way. But then other vassals tend wisely to leave him alone, so I've never had that happen.

Couple of related points:
  • If you decide to land your Heir it's probably wise to ally with him to keep him safe.
  • Inter-vassal warfare reduces income and levies, I believe.
  • If your vassals are warring at length, there's always a chance one will end really big, in which case you might want to intercede.

Once again, alliances with vassals DO NOT give either of you the option to call the other to war.

If your vassal starts a war with a foreign ruler, you cannot intervene.

An alliance with them gives you a non-aggression pact.

What do you mean "once again". Since this is your first post in this thread that just comes across as needlessly condescending.

Either a vassal vs vassal war, a war against an outside enemy started by the vassal or they got called into a war by allies.
