How to become a direct vassal to my emperor as a duke?

I am still trying to do what I am trying since CK2: Create the Swiss Confederacy. In CK3 I need to be a direct vassal to an emperor while holding 2 of the 3 duchies completely.

I was missing a single county that belonged to the Empire of Francia. Since they are currently the power block and about the only sensible empire around, I wanted to become their vassal, in order to make conquest of the county easier. However about a day after I pledged myself to the emperor, he handed me over to the Kingdom of Burgundy. While I was able to reduce Crown Authority and with that allow myself to attach the duke to steal the county, I am now in a position where I fulfill all requirements except for being a direct vassal of an emperor.

So here's my question: How can I tell my emperor that I need to be his direct vassal? Do I go for full independence? I can't do it via faction because my liege is vassal himself. Even if, I will not have a day to create the Swiss confederacy, because as soon as I pledge myself to an emperor, I am basically a hand-me-down to yet another king.

Either make an independence faction from just the Kingdom of Burgundy if you can, or you'll just have to steal it. Your feudal contract was given to Burgundy so you currently aren't a vassal to the emperor at all.

I believe if you fight for independence you will become your lieges liege vassal.

You have to either gain a title equivalent in rank to your current liege's, or directly declare a war for independence against your current liege. From your context, you'll likely want to go for B.

The AI will always hand you off to your rightful king liege if the title exists. You're ♥♥♥♥♥♥. You're only way to get rid of the kingdom is to conquer every last county the king holds, thus destroying the title.

Well, it was a close one. Created the Swiss Confederacy the same day the war ended.
