Losing titles from liege dying..
I lost titles by them becoming independent even though they are sea connected, because my liege died and his kingdom got split in two between his sons......and I'm just over here like wtf, how was I supposed to know that was going to happen. I would have handed them out or something.

Sounds like the Confederate succession mechanic. It seems the best way to deal with this is to make sure you've only got one eligible heir by the time your rules carks it. I did this guide here that outlines some ways you can do this.

Thanks, but it was not me that died, it was the liege above me. The king of france died and his realm split into france and frisia and i had land in italy that got turned independent. I was the duke of brittany.

You made a very useful guide Sputnik, I'll definitely use some of your advices in my next playthrough. Thanks a lot!

This is quite weird, I've never seen it before. But who got your lands in Italy?

That sounds like it may have been an independence war and some of your counties joined in. Do you know the cause of death of your ruler that died? They could have died in that war.

It was just some randomly generated characters that got the land. It says "became independent" in the title history. My liege died of old age. The only things i can think of are that maybe the AI's enclave rule kicked in over mine? but its on "significant" and is connected by a naval path so that does not make sense. Or that because I was over my domain limit they got stripped away? but that also does not really make sense. I did get pressed claims on the land but one of them swore fealty to the pope and the other is "too far away to interact with" -_- .

Was it somewhere in Francia (East or West)? You play close to the border with Aquitaine, then I can see that happening. Same with Bavaria/East Francia. Sounds like Karling shenanigans, anyway.

I think it's happened to me, with major titles on the other side (i.e where your Primary title is? That matters, I think.) So I kept a couple minor things on one side of the West Francia/Aquitaine border, and more of my domains went over to the other side.

Then, there was the time I was playing Otto of Angria, and my Liege lost the Karling consolidation wars... BOOM, game over. All my titles were gone/revoked, and my lands were given to vassals of Charles the Bald. Good times.

Yeah man earlier in the game my liege got a bunch of land taken by West Frankia and i thought that i would just be put under West Frankia since my primary was Anjou...nope. All lands taken except for Montegue (which i had luckily just captured) -_- better than a game over I guess.
The lands I lost this time were in Italy. I did notice that there was other land that was not mine that also went independent at the same time near venice but who knows why...
Another weird thing was that i was put under the king of Frisia instead of West Frankia which made for some nice border gore.
I ended up getting a foothold in Navara and retaking the lands in southern Italy so not the end of the world but also not really cool being jerked around and not knowing I'm about to lose a ton of land either.

What happened was enclave independance mechanic kicking in.
Next (new) game set it a bit looser or turn it off (for yourself or completely).

Losing some counties is not the end of the world, you'll survive :)

Yes. Something seems to have changed with the enclave independance mechanic in royal court. It never happened before the patch.
It is not the end of the world but it ruins a good part of the game and all the carefully planned succession was in vain,
In a sense, getting rid of the empires is not a bad thing, it makes the game interesting again.

In Ck2 blobbing was a major issue and they tried to retify this in CK3.
One of the ways they did that was through this mechanic.
What I tend to try is to give those counties to extended family.

You will still lose those counties but they stay inside the dynasty.
It is a cheap way to somewhat lesser the pain.

You could always try to hop counties and establish some wayward connection.

(me saying "it's not the end of the world" may have come across a little negative, but that was not my intention)

Good luck on your run.

Yeah I agree not the end of the world lol.
Basically I was planning for that land to go to my second son when my character died and sortof see what happens to him. I would have given it to him sooner if I had known the land was going to get split off.
