If you don't want blood in your hands, force him to be a knight and send him in an "adventure" to hostile lands. Maybe he could be killed in action... Poor guy.
Alternatively you can imprison the heir you do not want, and force them to take vows on condition of release.
Or do hunting events which sometimes has your heirs murder someone, which gives an option to throw in dungeon or kill. Since full on dungeon does give a fairly bad health penalty.
Also if you are an empire, then the kingdom would not split as long as you do not have enough land for form a second empire.
I had another game where I started in Denmark and took over a bit of Sweden. I gave the Swedish lands to one of my boys and let him go at it. He expanded way up into Norway and Sweden and did very well for himself. :-)
You have to be either feudal (not sure about clans aka muslims) or scandinavian/english.
Just add elective suc to your EVERY title (duchis/kingdoms/empires) and select heir you'd like.
Elective is much easier to manage than one would imagine.
