"Holdings of the Wrong Type"
I'm told by my Situation report that I have holdings of the wrong type for my government, making them worthless as sources of tax and levies. It advises assigning vassals to manage them properly.

So I did just that, and experienced an immediate income drop!

Opening up the build-menu in each holding I can't see what' so unusual about them. A red roll-over icon says the problem is it contains a City, which is not a suitable item for a Feudal government to manage. But most of the holdings I control directly also contain cities, seemingly without penalty.

Be grateful for any pointers.

A County, meanwhile, is a piece of land that contains one or more Baronies. Each County has a capital Barony, which is usually a Castle.

A Feudal ruler cannot hold City or Temple baronies without a penalty, so they must be given away, which will make the receiving character a Mayor or Bishop vassal, respectively.

The reason you likely saw a drop in income is that rather than giving away just the City barony, you gave away the entire County, including the Castle that you were generating taxes and levies from.
