Best Haesteinn direction?

When playing as Haesteinn, which target might be the best for a varangian adventure? I'd prefer something feudal with good position for raiding :D

There is no best, you can take anyone on, except perhaps the pope and the arabian empire. Egypt allows easy access to the indian ocean, southern Spain (thanks to Cordoba) is another big one or underdog Sardinia for it's mine special building are all good choices.

I was planning on starting in the baltic states to form Jomsvikings; unfortunately you seem to lose feudal as there are only tribal holdings

Sicily....and then I went Africa and then Spain<-Africa->Egypt then I got lucky with some byzantine revolts and my sons wife became empress w/Primogeniture so yey....Also I recommend Hybridising with Greek as....its sexy... and there is a mod that will allow you to use the unite the spanish thrones decision at any start date with any culture and well...that can be a blast if you do the reconquista a few hundred years faster

Sardinia. Sicily is a slightly better placed for raiding, but the capital of Sardinia has a mine.

Actually the pope is a very good target, you can take Latium and instantly become Catholic.

No crusades against you, pope is unlanded and thus powerless to take back Rome. There's a decision popping up to return Rome back to him, which you would obviously ignore.

Another exotic location is Kingdom of Mali. Varagian adventure to Duchy of Manding . Duchy has build slot for three gold mines! so you are swimming in gold in no time. Only "downside" is if you embrace local culture you are tribal. Also getting there requires couple additional hops because of the limited diplo range. Also Egypt is another good location become pharaoh (also change your faith to kushite). Then ofcourse you can take Kingdom of Krete and bend knee to Byzantine emperor or Kingdom of Bulgaria. With Haesteinn only imagination is limit.

England (Nothumbria, Wessex, Mercia) is an excellent target, very good duchies/counties, room for expansion into Scotland and Ireland for Empire of Britannia or later into Scandinavia for North Sea empire. and feudal

Egypt has access to the red, black and Mediterranean seas and the Indian Ocean. Tests a lot of raiding opportunities.

Another good one is to invade kingdom of East Francia and make yourself a Holy Roman Empire. (easy part is the conquering of lands hard part is to have 1000 gold to make two duchies and kingdom because after the war is won you are count with 66 counties).

Wouldn't a start as Jorvik / Halfdan be better if the target is Britannia?

I would go for Neustria/Normandy (W-Francia) and create the Norman culture.

Not really Haestein is just as strong army wise, he has a much better heir in his son if you groom him right. Better martial stats for a war conquest and it's precisely because he isn't tied down in the wars with Nothumbria, Mercia and Wessex while competing with Ivar that it makes for a much easier conquest.

You can pick your target. Focus entirely on it then be free to decide where and how you want to move from there. Especially since he doesn't 6 incompetent sons to worry about splitting your kingdom to pieves

i also recommend this. neustria is a really large duchy (great for many personal holdings with minimal mallus)
