Nothing you say after this makes sense, because AI is AI. AI in a given game is programmed to behave a certain way. If they behave that way on one say, they'll behave that way on the other. The issue is less with the AI and more with players expecting something the AI isn't programmed to deliver. Players are expecting their AI allies to behave like a player rather than a feudal lord.
It's not the AI with a lack of intelligence. It's the players.
But that isn't helpful is it. I hear you spitting already.
Yes, the AI can be dumb as a bag of rocks. What's rather annoying for me is if I draft in my allies, they tend to wander into the huge stack of troops and hand them war score rather than skating around them to get to my position so that we can approach them together, or siege down. Other times their sense of self preservation is so high, they won't jump into a battle, even if they would have made the difference. Sometimes that death aversion is merited because something about the fight is unpalatable; bad terrain, too few knights, bad counter, overwhelming levies. Stuff I didn't look at or care about, but probably would have lost me the battle.
Kind of agree with the above. For the AI it's a numbers game. If they don't like the numbers they are not going to budge. Machines don't like to roll the dice as much. I wish that at times the allies would decline rather than a "soft yes". It's all calculated because an AI is a calculator. They'll happily dogpile you when you've changed to a 2 year old new ruler, that's for sure. Most of the time they want to get the war done as soon as possible, sometimes wars start in their own territory and they have to abandon the progress made. Sometimes the AI starts too many simultaneous wars and maybe that could be adjusted slightly but on the other hand, there is nothing stopping you doing the same.
The devs have done some things to improve AI. They don't jitter like they've had a hit of acid anymore. Maybe we'll get some more adjustments before the heat death of the universe but they'd have to get the DLC out first.... (groan inserted)
