They were all pacifists and thought their show of strength would stop the enemy in their tracks, when they found out that wasn't the case they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off so they wouldn't get beat up.
Its probably difficult to program the AI to be able to notice you need help somewhere let alone in what ways. The only time the AI will help you directly is if they join your war. Their units wil follow your largest stack around wherever it goes. But if its you in their wars or if you just simply happen to be at war with someone they are also at war with, they will go around and do whatever.
Its the same again in other strategy games even outside of paradox games. For example, most total war games are like this in the campaign modes. You'll be allied to someone or whatever, you get decalred war on by a larger nation thats running you through with their much stronger units. So you decide "hey ill call in egypt to help me" and then egypt jains your war only to never actually do anything, like at all, or come help in the defense of your cities being sieged. Again i think that just probably comes down to difficulty in programming the AI. Just my guess though. But i agree its fairly annoying.
It is not here to be friends with you, or wash your back when you take a shower. It won't even give you a reach around..... But, it will expect one back. ;)
The game desperately needs an AI patch.
No, the AI is doing something....
It's waving from afar... The AI will not enter wars that it does not see as a strategic need and it will not help you win wars that will make you stronger than the AI. Why would the AI help you defeat itself?
As I said. The AI plays like Putin.
It won't wash your back, it won't give you a reach around but it will expect one back.
Or Sun Tzu or Zhang Yingyu. Very much "watching fires burn from across the river" from where I'm standing.
Thats a stupid analogy.
If you really think the AI doesnt do anything to defeat the player go ahead but that would mean its a faulty design by choice. AI teaming up against you while not doing anything to help you would be extremely unfair design choice and its extremely artificial difficulty spike. Why even play a game that changes its rules on a whim.
"Oh im at war with the player? Lets create a doomstack with my allies!"
"Oh the player called me to his war and we outnumber the enemy if we stack? Lemme run away from every battle and let the player pluck out his hair!"
Yea sure.
The AI just needs some patches right now its extremely infuriating when every crusade just outright fails because:
