Disadvantage of being a vassal ?
So far the only disadvantage I see of being a vassal is that about 4% of my levies are given to my liege and about 1% of my monthly money. Beside being called to his wars what are the other disadvantage ? because so far they are pretty non existent

You can't create certain ranks of titles, and depending on the rules your liege passes you may be restricted from declaring wars. Not having your liege's rank means you can hold less domain, and get less prestige/renown.

you're right, at least in my experience being a vassal is good with more pros than cons, i always swear fealty to a someone, then slowly conquer stuff from within and before i know im strong enough to get independent on my own without the need of a faction to back me up

anyway, what i can recall at this moment is:

- some decisions requires u to be independent
- ur susceptible to being arrested for crimes or getting ur titles revoked
- as you said, you give up a small portion of your taxes and levies in exchange of protection from outside threats
- losing land cuz your liege either accepted a populist faction demand or straight up lost to it

im sure there are more but this' all i can think of rn

Hiding under the umbrella of liege till your strong enough to survive on your own is basically the aim of the game.

If your liege passes High Crown Authority, you get shafted as far as expansion is concerned until you win a Liberty war. You're also vulnerable to actually being arrested for your crimes, so you can't behead your thorn of a brother or be a witch without serious consequences.

The most annoying one is that you can't give land away as a count without losing it. So it really limits your ability to expand beyond your domain limit. Second most annoying one as a count vassal to a duke is that you can't create a Duke title even though you control all of the necessary counties.

As a vassal, you can end up with hostile armies marching through your land for years on end and even sieging your fiefs because neither your liege nor the invaders are capable of achieving victory before another two wars break out. When you're having to run back and forth breaking sieges in your domain singlehandedly defending the realm from two aggressors while also fending off near-continuous tribal raids and your liege can't be bothered to help because he's embroiled in two other wars on the opposite side of the kindom and won't make peace with anybody... that's a problem.

Playing as a vassal is perfectly viable -- intended as an option, in fact.

If you're seeing no serious disadvantages then everything is working as intended.

being independent is a requirement for going from tribal to feudal

You can also go feudal if your liege is already feudal.
