So it's the launcher that was taking this game forever to load

I'd click the Steam icon to CK3 on my desktop and click play. Then it would sit on "initializing game" for several minutes. Not enough it was to much of a problem, but enough it was pretty annoying. I was like why does this game need 3 minutes to load in?

So I messed around with things for a while because these load times are BS for the PC I have. Eventually I got around to making a shortcut directly to the ck3.exe file which bypasses the launcher. Any, by making a shortcut to ck3.exe the game loads in about 5 seconds as opposed to 3 or more minutes it was taking. Anyway, hoping this helps anyone who has a problem with loading times.

What about mods, how do you load them without the launcher?

It's only the first time that it takes so long to load for me, but if I quit and restart it loads up because it's all cached. Is that what happened in your example OP?

Maybe that's the problem. I used launcher. Took like 3 minutes or w/e. I quit, then used the launcher again and it was fast. Oh well, I guess you were right. Get the same behavior even with the direst shortcut. I guess the first time no matter what it's gonna be slow. Then if you come back to it later it's fast. Sorry folks.

Yeah, I usually fire em up the first time while going to take a leak, making a snack, or feeding the cat. I definitely have the time.

pretty sure this is the answer, not the launcher

there was a launcher update, the first time it runs it takes a bit longer. the second time it popped right open and was in the game in about 10 secs or so.
