Why can't we edit our characters after starting?
It's kind of waste to only use the ruler designer when creating your first custom ruler. It's ridiculous tbh to have to go to save file ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to make my daughterwives perfect

Well it'd kinda ruin the whole dynastic breeding side of the game if you could, say, marry two Indians and then edit the child to look like a Scandinavian plus breaks immersion a bit. There might be a mod which does this but I can see why they don't let you do it in the base game.
EDIT: I do feel your pain though. All my rulers get shorter and fatter the longer I play. I once started as an 8 foot tall (whatever the tallest is, taller than a giant but without gigantism) anorexic (lowest weight possible) and I was playing as a tubby short guy 3 characters later.

Haha. Yeah I've had some real freaky 'beautiful' people. I actually sometimes pick my heir based on looks if the traits aren't that much worse than the statistically 'right' choice. Even resorted to some pretty extreme inbreeding to try and preserve the look of an original editor created character (didn't really work).

You clearly have no idea what this game is supposed to be then... The whole point is living through the medieval ages, and taking what the game gives you..

It'd be like a card game, then crying it never gives you the card you want when you want it, and editing it so you can choose any card you want at any time.. it completely defeats the point of the game...

Here's the issue: "Beauty" is supposed to cast a broad net. For instance, here's a collection of beautiful women.[i.imgur.com] Notice how different they are. Ask each individual person who looks at this which one is most attractive, and you'll get an endless number of answers, but none of them are earth-shatteringly ugly.

You see, objective perfection doesn't exist. What the "beautiful" trait does is make features more symmetrical and face textures less rough. It doesn't magically create perfection from imperfection. The important thing is that you look at each character's uniqueness. Find the part of them that makes them attractive, and let that inform the overall image. If you're after clones, why not play Princes of Darkness and just make a vampire-wife who's hand-crafted to suit your every taste?

While all this is true, I'm still not sure how my obese, 80 year old, leper Emperor, is still holding onto his beauty.

Well he's not, the leprosy is offsetting the beauty modifier pretty substantially lol.

True but it still says he's beautiful. Apparently he's a beautiful, obese leper. Somehow. Maybe it really all is in the eye of the beholder.
EDIT: also being a beautiful leper is -5 attraction cumulatively. Just being ugly is -10. So someone who once had a gorgeous nose, but it's now falling off, is more attractive than someone who has a totally intact but misshapen nose... apparently.
