Fate of the Norsemen?
So an event comes up saying you either turn Swedish or stay Norse. To stay Norse you must own 80% of Norse territories (pretty much impossible unless you conquered everyone early on and held onto it.) But here's the thing. Sweden was taken over from a dynasty member, though independent. It switched to Norse. It is all Norse. Norway is Norse. Yet now everyone turns Swedish? Is there any way to stop this? (If anything, my people should be Norwegian since they started out there.)

Sorry for necro, but I had the same issue and I think I figured it out.

All my lands also turned Swedish, but then I loaded an autosave and tried moving my realm capital back to De-Jure Norway (from London), and it worked.

I don't mind the necro if you don't. Thank you. I can't remember how I solved it now. It was super annoying considering "Sweden" turned Norse before my leader inherited the title. I will try your solution if it happens next time I play them.
Got this event, but I wanted to know if it was better for innovations and teching if I let the Norse culture split? From what I understand every Norse holding that is low development drags all my research down.

I haven't tested that, but I would assume a smaller culture with high average development should be better.

What I did notice, but would need to re-check to be sure, is that when I switched over to Norwegian from Norse, some techs just suddenly were completed (Onagers, specifically). Could be that Norwegian culture just has that (and possibly others) completed from the "start", if you know what I mean.
That's interesting. So kind of like when one of my vassals formed the Normans they instantly got both French and Norse tech. If I go Swedish, it would combine with Norse tech and I'd basically get perhaps a random tech for free since Swedish culture might have researched a random tech in the background before it even was formed?

Well, I assume that since no Swedes, Norwegians or Danish existed before that event fired (and no Danish existed after either :D ) that the cultures aren't researching a thing, they just have some base level of technology researched at the time of their conception.

The way to exploit this would be to figure out if they always start with the same techs (like Onagers) and then focus on all the other stuff when you're still Norse.

I had the same even pop up during a recent Kingdom of Man and the Isles playthrough. My culture turned Swedish, which was hilarious because Sweden stayed norse culture.
