Confused about succession
So I brought together a lot of lands and founded an empire. These lands consisted mostly of Scandinavia. Though the empire was labeled as my starting kingdom which was Sweden. Here is where I'm confused. When my king died a new empire title was created automatically and given to another one of my children. This basically split Scandinavia into two parts with 2 different empire titles....Why did this happen?

It happened because you forgot (or was unaware) to use the Decision to apply Scandinavian Elective to your Empire Title Succession Law. All North Germanic (and most Tribal rulers for that matter) use Confederate Partition by default. Confederate Partition works like regular Partition but in addition, it will create available titles for free upon succession to distribute further titles to more heirs.

You can also, for 1500 fame a pop., apply specific Elective Succession Laws to your individual titles by opening up that title menu (at the bottom there is a submenu) so you can personalize the succession that way...

Thank you, I was actually unaware. I just recently picked this game up and there is still so much to learn.

Confederate partition splits your realm if new titles of the same tier as your highest title can be created. Basically as long as you've got confederate partition your land will always split once your big enough unless you use a special succession type to prevent it.

It also sounds like you created a custom empire which added to the issue. If you had created the empire of Scandinavia instead then there wouldn't have been a 2nd empire title to create so it wouldn't have happened. But since you created a custom empire the parts of Scandinavia that weren't part of your Swedish empire were still eligible to form the Scandinavian empire.
