I just found an unexpected way to get the shrewd trait.
Shrewd has been one of those traits that's eluded me for a long time now. However, to my absolute amazement, my current ruler with terrible stats got it the second I started playing as her. Apparently, you can get the trait through the seek aid of spirits decision the Adorcism tenet gives. I don't know how rare it is, but it's certainly welcome.

It also gives out strong. It's a bit of a mixed bag though cos you can end up with possessed, impotent, infirm or ill. Your priest makes a difference (under 10 learning increases the chance of negatives and over increases the chance of positives and your priest having the wiseman trait increases the chance of positives and reduces the chance of negatives/not having it does the opposite). Get a wiseman (/woman) priest with very high learning and always use the grand offering option and it's relatively risk free.

No worries friend. It's one of my favourite tenets but Daurama's probably my favourite character (she's just so different compared to a lot of the others... William the Conqueror can jog on) so that biases me a bit.
