What can you do to prevent your secrets from leaking out?
Title. Would love to indulge in a little bit more roleplaying if i could do something to prevent everyone from uncovering my secrets one after another.

Need to make sure your spymaster is top notch and working to protect your dirty little secrets. Your own intrigue level helps with discovering schemes against you and the 'Prepared for anything' perk in the Intrigue lifestyle is also a helper.

Hm. So it really does boil down to a PC's intrigue and putting a high-intrigue spymaster on the defensive. Thanks for the tip. Might try mixing up a bunch of snakes in my next playthrough

My biggest headaches are random strangers uncovering secrets they had no involvement in. One of my PC's murdered someone while he was a prince, and four unrelated people ended up blackmailing me before that PC died.

That could work, except they've either exposed the secret, demanded money, or modified a feudal contract before the murder is carried out.

Yeah, no matter what its always best to just agree to their demands and then just murder them. But the only time ive ever had someone expose a secret vs making a demand was rulers outside of my realm, I guess theres no way for them to use hooks so they just auto expose.

There really should be some mechanic in place for your rank to limit that sorta stuff though, one playthrough my character had multiple empire titles and was being blackmailed by some 1 province minor lol. Cant really see that happening.

That's my exact same problem: how to safeguard secrets. i always get pulled into making the 'optimal' choices since picking role-play choices comes with so much risk.

I'll try stacking intrigue with high-intrigue spymasters on my next playthrough. see if the combo works in blocking secret-hunters or if there really is nothing you can do against someone who's determined to undermine your empire.

on the flipside, i also used this tactic to fragment sweden when it was growing to become a threat i could not manage.

i tried murdering kings to see if the kingdom will split. no dice--it remained cohesive after four successive killings. i then sent my spymaster to dig out secrets in the swedish king's court. i exposed all those secrets, watched sweden get wracked by civil war, and then started nibbling away on the splintered pieces near my borders.
