best way(s) to take away a duchy title from your vassal?

The sanctioned loopholes "buy claim" does not work on vassal titles, so that doesn't do it. I have made a custom religion that makes a lot of things criminal, but despite that the duchy holder I'm interested in has not committed any crimes so I can't revoke without causing tyranny.

What are the best options?

- maybe just take the tyranny hit since I'm pretty well liked and a long ruler so doing this one act maybe not too terrible?

- I prefer not to use do the dynasty head claim on title because renown is very scarce to come by and I'm hoarding it for legacies

can you get him excommunicated? never tried.

or force him to revolt by imprision him, when there is a liberty faction he is part of.

or if he is in the faction you can just let rebellion happen.

or if the rebellion don't happen fast enought just start taxing people you want to remove.

I would recommend the "Fabricate claim" task of your realm priest. There are two options for that.
1) You fabricate a claim on every county the duke personally holds and revoke them. If the duke has no more county left, the duchy title will be destroyed and you can claim it by recreating the duchy title
2) A realm priest with a learning skill of 15 or more has a chance to fabricate a claim on the duchy while fabricating a claim on a county. The chance increases with higher learning.
Other options:
If have a spiritual head of faith you could try to buy a claim on the duchy from the head of faith. (Gets quite expensive if your realm is large and you might need a hook on your head of faith)
If you are not the rightful liege of the duke, you could grant him independence and buy a claim via the sanctioned loopholes. I would recommend murdering the duke after you gave him independence to get rid of the 10 year truce.
You could try to use your spymaster to find secrets at the dukes court, maybe the spymaster discovers a secret of the duke that is a crime. Expose the secret to make him a criminal and revoke his title afterwards.
A rather long term solution would be to marry the heir of the duke and produce your player heir in that marriage. That way you would inherit the title. You might have to murder severeal people to get the right set up.
