Dual wielding religions?
I ran across an idea reading some ancient posts of running 2 religions within your core empire, both based on taking a Gnostic tenet so they consider each other Righteous

1. Expansion Religion: Warmonger/Pursuit of Power for the CBs, Tax Nonbelievers (offset the cost of going to war, pretty good if you can make your personal counties a different Gnostic faith). Temporal Head of Faith so you can declare GHWs.

2. Stabilization/conversion: Mendicant, Armed Pilgrimages (no head of faith gives more conversion speed per holy site)

It only takes 250 piety to swap between whichever is necessary at the time assuming both are present somewhere in your empire, and again because of the Gnostic tenets you won't suffer any opinion hits if your vassals get mixed up between the two. The one issue I can think of is only one of the faiths will benefit from holy sites at a given time, but those bonuses are generally small enough not to really matter. You'd prefer them to to be under the stabilization faith to boost armed pilgrimages I suppose.

Any thoughts, it's probably unnecessary but seems kinda cute. The reason why you wouldn't just stack warmonger + mendicant + armed pilgrimages in one religion is because you'd have to choose between no head of faith to speed along conversion or temporal to declare GHWs; with the dual wielding setup you can swap between whichever you need more at the time.

I could also see something like one religion for CBs, the other for resource generation (tax nonbelievers, reincarnation for renown farming, fertiility to pop out more kids for reinc).

And maybe yet another option is keep a third religion around specifically to help succession. Or even keep multiple sets of religions to cover all the virtue types in case your kid turned out weird. Oof my theorycrafting bones are tingling.

Agreed that I don't think it's really necessary but yeah the theory's sound I think.

Dual wielding religions? What, like you're gonna go into battle with a solid gold crucifix in one hand, and a menorah in the other?

Gnostic is an universal tenet, so in theory you can create two gnostic faiths with different holy sites (say, Orthodox and Norse) and establish two independent kingdoms (one per faith) consisting at least some holy sites. Regardless what faith your empire follows, the other one will get boost from one of your "sister kingdoms".

Not my idea, but I read somewhere about holding two gnostic faiths: one for vassals and one for ruler. I don't know the specifics, aside "ruler religion" would have Tax Nonbelievers.
