yes but it is random, you can randomly discover secrets about people. if you happen to trigger this on the guy that killed you of any of his agents, and it happen to discover this particular secret yes then congrats you found your killer.

Oh no reliable way then eh. I wouldn't even know which court he or she'd be at to use find secrets on.

Have your spymaster find secrets at your own court. This seems to include all vassals. Also if you got murdered, there must have been agents at your court.

That doesn't make sense though, because before I die I would rather be on disrupt schemes, and afterwards the courtiers change because of the heir, doesn't it? Even then I'd prefer my spymaster be on disrupt scheme post heir change as well.

If the murderer is your heir then the first thing you'll see upon his ascension to the throne is a "Plot Succeeded" popup.

I once completely failed the "catch the serial killer" crime and had my wife and a couple kids get murdered... only after dying of old age did I discover, having become my eldest son and looked at the hooks and secrets menu, that my oldest son and sole heir was the killer

You only get new courtiers if your heir was landed before you die. You should also keep the old ones. There is no "pruning" like in CK2 where all the unimportant people disappear on succession.

Oh to have such a son would make my job so much easier of "pruning the herd". Although I would be upset if he took out a daughter.

1 Daughter = 1 Ally and possibly another kingdom with my family name if all goes well.
