Raise Vassal Limit?
Is there any way of modifying the vassal limit? I have a huge empire and cant get any more vassals without getting the penalty. they are all kings so granting vassals is not really an option.
Some mods change the limit but not in a running game.
Is there a way to maybe edit this in the savegame?

The vassal limit is there for a reason. You could just give one empire title away, or grant independence to the same amount of kings.

You could just start giving each king multiple kingdoms to rule.

But why?

You don't "win" the game by conquering the whole world, it will keep going until 1453 regardless. A multi-empire realm at the vassal limit means you already have achieved everything, there won't be an "endgame crisis" testing you.

Also to reform the vassal limit, you would have to retract the kingdom title from literally dozens of vassals and give it to the remaining ones. Then you keep conquering and eventually run into the same problem again. And since you don't have claims on the vassal kingdoms and can't forge them, you'd be looking at endless tyranny rebellions from revoking all those titles.

Basically you gain nothing you don't already have in abundance.

Don't know which part of the world you're playing in, but apparently if you take the HRE title you can increase your vassal limit by 20. I also read another way (something similar) to get a smaller increase to vassal limit but I've forgotten what that one was now. It was asked and answered before on this forum so you could search, though ;)

I never thought of giving king vassals multiple titles, interesting.

I would like to see a difference between emp and king, emp should be 70/80 vassal limit:)

Because it's there.

Can somebody who really knows what file to edit post the answer?
There are literally hundreds of mods for this game, but changing the vassal limit is somehow wrong.
de_pol Oct 24, 2020 @ 7:58am
I've exhausted every non mod option to raise it. there are some perks that raise the limit like greatest of Khans. I was surprised that there wasnt already a mod for this. If dont know anything about modding so making my own is out of the question.
So i'm basically looking for a way to modify the savegame. Does anyone have an idea?

Why i want a higher limit shouldnt be of any concern in a game that allows you so much freedom. But if you absolutely need to know: i started as the count of Luxembourg, subsequently created the empire of Luxembourg and control almost all of Europe and the middle east. But i will not rest until the entire world map is under the banner of the red lion! No way in hell am i going to grant an empire title away to someoneelse. That's not how house Luxembourg rolls.I'm in 1317 now and there are still way to many non-catholics on the map!

i have 220k levies, the genius, beautiful, herculean and fecund traits run in my family.I literally have nothing left to do other than conquering the entire map and converting everyone to catholicism

i fiddled a bit the savegame. I got the mod "more game rules" where you can set the vassal limit up to 1000. It wont let you change the rules in game, so edited the savegame from default_vassal_limit to extreme_vassal_limit but it messed up the savegame and when loaded it shows the starting screen where you pick your ruler but the map is gray and there are no rulers to pick. Date is 1st January 1.

Anyone have an idea what else to try?

I’m in a somewhat similar position, but I’ve decided I’m cool with being over the vassal limit. The loss it causes seems to be only in gold income, and my income is high enough that the loss doesn’t matter. In my mind, I rationalize this as the cost of administering such a huge empire. I have so many vassals that most of them no longer have a personal relationship with me, they have relationships with the administrators that I employ in my imperial bureaucracy - and my bureaucrats need to be paid (plus they are probably on the take themselves). That’s where the ‘lost’ income goes!

egalitarian culture raises it. as well as legalistic culture. There are crowns that can raise it as well.

This is the reason, why someone should only make dynasty members to kings, because their titles can be revoked without tyranny, via Claim Interaction for the Dynasty Head.
