games like this one?
i usually play completely different games than crusader kings. and to my surprise, i am loving it. especially the historic bits combined with a pause option to really look at all the 15 options to make a good decision.

are there other games that are roughly the same? i looked at the older games in the series but to be honest... i do not care so much for older games with horrible ui by todays standard.
i think that another setting could work as well if the game offers the same depth.

thanks!

other games? i guess the other paradox titles might cover that one. although this is the only medieval series.

Eu4 for exploration and conquest, hoi4 if you like ww2, stellaris if you like space stuff.

CK is pretty unique in what it offers, you're probably not going to find many similar games released before CK2, but there are a few clones out there now.

I think there's a 3rd person survival game that deals with dynastic role playing (can't recall the name but it is on steam), then there's 'Yes, your Grace' which is less Historic (as in completely not historic).

As previous posts mentioned, your best bet is most likely other Paradox games but it does also depend what you're looking for too (eg game play mechanics, time period, etc?)

In regards to the genre you can do a 'grand strategy' genre search on the Steam store which does show you all other games on Steam considered the same genre, although there aren't a huge amount and a large percentage of those are Paradox.

For my taste (so note, could differ for you!) I got a lot of mileage from Europa Universalis IV, which is one of Paradox's other grand strategies. I played that first for a long time in fact and was waiting for CK3 to come out to get into this series (rather than starting on CK2), exactly because I already liked EU4.

EU4 may look very similar to CK3 on the surface, but there are certainly differences. The most obvious one to mention is that in CK3 you play as a dynasty of rulers, while in EU4 you play as a nation. EU4 pretty much begins close to where CK3 ends, running from 1444 to 1821. And it's been out for a long time now so there is a lot of DLC you can pick up for it (as there will be for CK3 in the future).

Biggest similarity would surely be the historical context, albeit in a later period, but it's one of the things I like most about both games as things in these games drive me to learn stuff about history which I find interesting. But again this is for my taste, so no promises yours would be the same, but that's my recommendation :)

EU4

I assume Eu4 isnt as new person friendly as ck3 is?

The pop up info boxes have been great for ck3, made it very easy for me to learn the game:)

Theres nothing quite like CK,

Total war medieval 2.
Its similar, except much less dynasty focused and much more battle focused. So during a war you enter the battle field and move your troops. But still you have heirs, and youre a ruler taking growing a country on a world map.

Civilazition 5, similarish kind of thing

I have not played Bannerlord 2, I downloaded ages ago but never got round to trying it, but I heard its sort of a 3rd person CK2.

I'm keeping an eye out for Manor lords, which could be like a city building CK3

Stellaris is like a sort of ck2 in space.

I downloaded EU4 but never got round to playing it, does not seem as good as CK2.

CK2 is a great game once you get passed the UI, which imo is not bad, just not as pretty.

The tutorial in EU4 is a lot less thorough than CK3 and certainly doesn't give you enough to then just go and play the game. Couple it with either some reading, some YouTube vids, the Wiki, forums, or most likely a combo of all four, and you will get there :) But yeah won't lie to you it's definitely a steep learning curve when you first start playing it.

In Bannerlord you can have kids who grow up and become warriors or castellans/ governors, but you don't control their destinies the way you do in CK. It's pretty good though overall, but it's very much about commanding troops. (though it's EA so new not fully featured yet)

Yeah, I'm waiting till it comes out of early access before I give it a go, I think it spoils these games a bit.
Theres games you get in early access that by the time they go full release youre already a bit bored of it, so you never get to enjoy it in a more complete state

And then I stick on games, and soon start thinking I could be playing CK2/3 right now instead, and launch CK3. Thats why I didnt really give EU4 much of a go either

So I think, nope, theres nothing really out there that can scratch a CK3 itch like CK3

About 75% of the time I would agree with you, but I do think there are exceptions... Just off the top of my head games like Rimworld, Prison Architect and Kerbal are ones I first played in early access, then came back to at later dates and got into a second time.

Bro you need to give EU4 a go, you wont be disappointed!

Sorry for necroing the thread, but as I found this one searching for tips on CK-like games, I thought I might as well leave behind my own tips for CK-like games for future seekers (all games mentioned can be found on Steam):

First, there's 'Star Dynasties', which basically tries to be Crusader Kings in Space. But although it's part of my collection, I haven't gotten around to playing it yet, so I can't really comment much further...

Second there's 'The Vagabond Emperor' - it's not quite a Strategy/Cilvillization game like the Crusader Kings game, but it is about making a dynastic rise to the top, so to speak. The bad news there is that it is still in Early Accesss. And, according to a post on it's forum, the developer of the game recently passed away in an illness, and if that is true, I have no idea of where that leaves the game...

Thirdly, there's 'The Scroll of Taiwu', and it is not quite a not quite a Strategy/Cilvillization game either, but it is dynastic in nature and the idea of improving things with each generation is there. The bad news, however, is that the game is still in Early Access and not availalbe in english yet, though the developers apparently intend to make it available in English eventually. The good news, however, is that there is a fan-made patch made by fans that adds english to the game though it's a WIP...

That's all CK-like games I'm aware of that has not yet been mentioned here, for now...

Edit: Almost forgot, there's a fourth one I know of as well: Medieval Monarch, an early access game that has been around since before CK3 entered the scene. It's a game that clearly tries to copy Crusader Kings, but it is not yet available in English, though the developer seems to intend for it to be eventually...

Speaking of Old World, I just went to the store page of that one and it contained a tip for another coming game that may well be a 'Crusader Kings In Space'-kind of game: Alliance of the Sacred Suns...
