Who can have a clan government and who can not?
Hi there.

Played some games now and i am still a bit fuzzy on some details.

What is on my mind atm is the difference between "clan" and "feudal" or more important, who can become a clan and who can not.

As i see it all muslims can become calns and all non-muslims simply become feudal, but jewish rulers can also be clans as i noticed. Is there some definite answer to the conditions? Wiki, posts and forums seem a little unclear.

clan means tribe I assume, you cannot become tribe, you start as one and make your way to feudalism. As a tribe the main diferences are your holdings - you can have only tribe and mostly nothing else, with very limited structres. And your man at arms army is the other main diference, as tribe you pay them with prestige not gold. So from start if you are a tribe you will have better start with the army, but after a century, you will start to struggle with neighbors who might be feudal as they will have more money, at that point its good to feudalize yourself. In order to become feudal you must have highest tribal law, your religion needs to be reformed one, you hit the button and your lands become feudal, your vassals will follow you if they can. If you get a tribal country after that you can feudalize it with 500 gp, tribe will become castle and empty lands in the county will get one church and one city.

Clan government means just that.

This is the available information in the wiki, unfortunately I don't know the answer to your question OP.

Yeah, BaCaz got it right. I do mean "clan" as opposed to "feudal" available after "tribal", but as it seems maybe only for muslim goverments, but i am not sure.
May question basicly comes down to: Can i be a clan instead of feudal, without beeing a muslim nation?

Since I've played mostly everything else but a muslim nation at this point I'd say there is a large chance that you'd need to be muslim as I've never had the option to go clan rather than fedual.

As an independent ruler, becoming a clan is restricted to muslims.
However, if you somehow manage to be tribal and vassal to a muslim liege, you could reform into a clan as a vassal without being muslim.

That's according to the wiki, at least: https://ck3.paradoxwikis.com/Decisions#Major_decisions

Hmm, that is interesting. Would that hold up after i get independance?

Ah ok never mind. Just started up a game with debug mode on, gave me enough piety and switched religion in a feudal kingom to islam. It stayed a feudal Kingdom and did nt change to clan.
Vis versa for a clan that i made christian.

Nice.
Good idea with changing the religion or ruler inbetween.

I do liek clan better than feudal, tbh. :)
