Is Witch Coven via Cadet Branch my best bet?

I lead my House which is getting large so getting enough members for a coven would be too much. If I have a dynasty member make a cadet branch and make them witches, will they be able to have the coven? If I only have to convert those of my small branch, no problem.

I'm playing with a mod that makes creating cadet branches more difficult so the lead house is pretty large. I can get a cadet branch made though if I know I'll be able to start a coven with just that cadet family.

I think you might have a good chance even with a large house to get your members to witchery. You won't be the only one to convert the others if you convert a few yourself. Also, mentors will teach the assigned children. I know it will be a bit annoying, but if you start at your closest family and also teach the parents of your new generation of house members, more and more house members will be witches and the old house member who are not witches will die out pretty fast.

It might be plausible but it's not an optimal solution, but then afaik there is no good solution. If the cadet branch has the coven and you're a known witch, you might get invited but you won't get all the best buffs and you'd only get half the available grand rites since you wouldn't be able to host them yourself. I recommend you make a custom character for your next game and make it a witch from the start, eliminate the rng factor. It takes 9 months to convert someone to witchcraft' with a chance to fail so if the house is making more children than 1 every 9 month it becomes close to impossible since even with other witches converted and helping you the person creating the coven needs to know of all these witches and you can only reveal yourself as a witch to others you know to be witches. So messy late game
