Is your child automatically your ward?
Salutations I seem to remember in CK3 that if you did not assign a ward, you automatically raised all your children. Is this the case... If so do they count as your ward for the pedagogy life trait? I.e. will they become your friend, and will they get better stats.

If not, can you still only have to wards? Thank you!

Nope, you need to choose a guardian for each child or they'll grow up by themselves. Each guardian can have up to two wards at any time.

Additionally you can choose a guardian from your court for yourself if you're a child.

Man that feels like a huge step backwards... It's pretty easy to end up w/ more than 2 kids... I guess you just have to choose who gets raised to be awesome and who gets left out in the woods to be raised by rabid honey badgers...

Sort of. Kids tend to be different, so it's not hard to find someone it your court to be their guardian and that guardian can be better than you. But as far as using your own trait to make your kids better and more pliant to your wishes, yeah, you make that choice and that's how the cookie crumbles. Of course, you could always just get hooks on your own children. My Raj has hooks on so many children, the Secrets screen looks like the audience for the Krusty The Clown Show: just row after row of small children. It's creepy, really.

It's not
It should be
Education isn't as important as Personality, so always be the Ward

Made a thread about it

Honestly, firstly Twelvefield, that was funny lmao thanks. but ya Talamare is right, when you can only raise two kids, stats aside, having them grow up depraved or some ♥♥♥♥ cuz the priest you had raise them is a sicko, isn't fun. the fun part of having kids is the RPing, the events that pop up...

you don't get that with auto-guardian selecting the person with the highest stats in hopes of a good education.

Typically if you assign them to a good teacher, they do turn out okay. Also while you can only be the guardian of two children at the same time, you can likely teach more than two children over your life time, since they are not going to be born all at the same time and the early years before they start their education doesn't matter.

That's true but I dislike how you don't get a warning when your child is ready to be educated. It really needs to be a flag on the top of the screen like in CK2.

There is a mod for this called 'Expanded Alerts'. I am using it, highly recommended.

Honestly, just do it at Birth

You get a warning in your to-do list. If the number changes, then I know to look at the list. If the kid is that important, I'll just do it ASAP after birth without waiting for the warning. Let's face it, my liege loves some of his children more than others.
Priestie Oct 12, 2020 @ 6:47pm
Oh I didn't know you could do it at birth, thank you!

You gotta keep checking your family tree for when the sprogs turn up and manually set a guardian straight away :D be a good pa and give those kids some edumucation.

But then you miss out on the education bonus you get for educating the child in their chosen focus (the one you see when they turn 6).

I've always assigned guardians according to the child's personality focus, and I make sure to pick teachers with good traits even if I have to bring them to my court through marriage first. It really helps with having well-educated rulers with good stats that are accepted by their vassals.

You do not miss out on anything, and you can change teachers at 6 if needed

Tho personality is more important than education, so....

What I’d like is a tab showing all kids and your grandkids who need edicating. It randomly shows for your kids at times but its easy to overlook and waste valuable learning time. Also i’d like a 6y mark notificatiin to check the focus.

I just try aquire genious characters with decent learning and traits that are not sinful or overall bad, and stick a child on em till they grow. For heir I may be changing it more often if i find a better tracher at6y mark.
