Completely bent. And it's definitely NOT because the characters have too little gold.
I checked this especially and the character screen showed 645 gold ... 300 gold should be ransom money. 30 gold was transferred and I saw that the character still had 615 gold left.
Unbelievable how you can miss such cheap bugs. Obviously there was no quality control at all!
The recent patch was supposed to fix that popup and, it has, but now it seems to be in reverse, the popup message says he paid the full 50 but only gave me 7
And it seems random too, i can have 5 prisoners all being ransomed for 50 and 2 of them will give me the full 50 and the other 3 will give me 5-10 each while still saying 50 each in the message popup
50 gold is usually ransomed for a count/heirs, but you will find that you are not getting the 50 gold ransom on guys that arn't counts/heirs yet somehow these rando courtiers are ransomable for 50 gold. They should at best be only giving you 10 gold, and it is probably likely that you are receiving this amount. However don't forget that if you are at war, you can be bleeding a lot of gold every month as well, so by the time you look again, you might have gotten only 7 gold (-3 gold for monthly maintenance, for example).
I noticed a lot of guys should have given me 50 gold but they only gave me something like a few gold ... then I looked into what guys got ransomed and how much the game normally offers and it seems to be that randos get assigned the 50 gold value in the UI but the game still treats them as if they are worth what they are supposed to be worth so its a UI problem and the player only looking at the expected gold return. You greedy bastards!
maybe the game just shows the wrong number but actually subtracts the proper number.
He could also lose his title in the meantime (getting downgraded from duke to count) which would also mean you get a reduced amount.
It's not broken per se.
Basically, the developers thought it would be nice to save you the hassle of ransoming for hooks and then selling the hooks by combining it but forgot to save the actual money in the ransom amount variable.
What you see in the ransom window is how much you'd get for the hook, but when you actually get paid you only receive what you'd receive for a normal ransom. To get around it for now, just ransom for the hook and then sell the hook.
That seems to be the case. I have the trait 'golden obligations'.
Did you actually read what the problem is?
You need to "ransom for a favor", then demand payment. You'll get the displayed sum.
These are the actual values of ransom, so the amount you receive if you ransom directly for money is correct:
https://ck3.paradoxwikis.com/Court#Ransom
So a courtier is worth 10g, mayor 30g, and so on. How much you get for demanding payments probably depends on your dynasty fame or ruler tier, starting with 50g and going up to 300g during the game.
Two things to note, not related to this bug but favor payments in general:
1) you cannot demand payment from a character you are directly at war with (incl. all crusade participants / defenders)
2) you cannot demand payment from someone out of diplomatic range, so you may have to check if the liege of a prisoner can be interacted with
